Finished building and installed bar top for Cabana. It's Bamboo and 1.5" thick. Bought 5 slabs, cut them, joined them and 4 coats of exterior grade urethane. Client will clean up the shims. Cuts with track saw, joined with dominos and sanded with ets125.
Cheers

Looks really nice! Did you get the bamboo from Lowes? I just saw a stack of counters there, good price too.

I'd love to use these for a outdoor kitchen, are there plans to winterize?

Great idea, you've got my gears spinning!

Yes. Got them from Lowes. Very heavy. Make sure you eat your wheaties. As well Bamboo is very hard on blades.
As for the Winter. The client will cover them up with tarp. Now I did a test with sample peices and left them outside for a month. With the rain we had and the extreme heat, the bamboo didn't even warp or stain. I guess grass, bamboo, is more weather proof then wood.
Cheers.

Don't know if you have IKEA near you, but they have great deals on "butcher block" in many materials at good prices
