Hello everyone,
I am fairly new in woodworking, as well as this website. Which is absolutely great btw.
In my research for clamping tools and methods i came across this machine and i would like your opinion about it, regardless the price.

Man, that thing is a beast. I sure hope Frank [member=20326]SittingElf[/member] doesn't see it!!

Cheers. Bryan.

That is one sweet clamping wall. Wish I had the room and need for that.

This is new to me.  Impressive.

For cases and panels and face frames I wonder about return on investment.  You get automatic squaring and that is a big deal indeed.  But productivity wise I don't see a huge advantage over a low rise assembly bench and properly staged pipe clamps.

What I've always thought about is a stripped down version of a normal case clamp closed using muscle.

Very interesting.

What makes you think I don't ALREADY have one??!!  [big grin] [eek]

Little overkill, don't you think?

Cheers,

Frank

A good friend has one in his shop and its as impressive as it it looks. It can be had with many options and variations. I helped assemble the unit and its very robust and has settings down to a couple of thousands. Assembly is definitely a 2 man job. His unit is on wheels which also allows the use of wall space. Be prepared for the price but the quality and accuracy dictate it. His unit came from Rangate, but Martin and Felder also sell Barth products.

Hello Frank,

Do you really have this? what you think about it? at least for panels on a smaller scale...wouldnt be a better alternative to regular clamps?

Cheers,
Achilles

hello Bryan,

Despite my inexperience in woodworking i also think its great. Why shouldnt Frank see it? i dont know who it is btw lol

Cheers, Achilles

Achilles,  it was a joke at Frank's expense. Frank is one of our members who is in the process of building a dream workshop with a great lineup of Festools as well as large stationary equipment. He has a lot of great items in his shop right now and is ever building... Although he did say he is "finished" with buying his Festools for now. ;^)

You should see his posts (look for the member name "SittingElf") to get a sense for his mission.

Cheers. Bryan.

Bohdan,

Having these clamps on the MFT would be a little too much i think. I cant trust the mdf holes for dead accuracy. These clamps should be made for aluminum or metal holes. But what about an MFT with an aluminum panel instead of the mdf or hdf? that should be an upgrade.

Cheers, Achilles

No matter how good the clamp you have to cut straight and square and to length in the first place!!

Those hydraulic clamps look like they would just crush any wrong cuts into shape.

perhaps something like this:

there's also a video from this same company Barth that shows their large vacuum press machine.  the curved forms including that big door at the end are pretty impressive.
