here are pictures of my last project.

I used the ts 55, the of1400 and lr32 for the holes... domonio, jig saw for the arch
I used birch cabinet ply and mdf beadboard and popular for the trim pieces.

the couple went out of town for 4 days, and when they left all they saw were the cabinets in place, and one side fluting and crown on and primed... no doors or fireplace done.

so when they came home and  it was finished.. I added the fireplace upper trim piece, painted the fireplace wall an accent color (they were not aware I was doing this but it added to the overall look)  also hung tv as per there request....

they just loved everything and called over 7 neighbors and I have already meet with one neighbor to do built ins for them and a mud room bench!.

(Glad I did not have to repaint the wall !)

enjoy

The Beadboard King strikes again!  Nice project.

Kreg,  I am working on my second and third beadboard projects.  Keep a membership card handy!

Kreg,

Wondering if you made the raised panel doors yourself, or if it is more cost effective for you to buy premade?

How about the cabinet boxes?  Do you use domino construction similar to onsite cabinetry class?

Thanks,

corey,  thanks !

I make everything  from scratch, except the crown and the dental mold...  the doors I make myself with the sommerfeld door set and router table.

It took me about 6 hours to make the 8 doors etc.. and then paint them.

I never send out for doors as I never know the exact size till I am done and at that point.  so instead of waiting a week for doors... I make them myself and it really is easy to do.

yes I can preplan better and know the exact size beforhand.. but I wing everything as I go from my plans in my head and a small piece of scratch paper

but with marcs sommerfeld door set and if new at it then get his dvd on how to do it and it is really easy.

as far as the cab.. I use the domonio one on each end for alingment,, glue and screw either straight on... or pocket screws to hold together.  same with the tops of the bookcase  domonio on each end for alighment...

and with the domonio I keep all mortise tight the same size.  if I was to add several in the center then I would use the middle size for one of those mortises.

Kreg,

What can I say but usual great job.  I for one am very appreciative of your willingness to share the product of your skills with the rest of us.

david not true... you to can built something just like this it just takes practice and festools !

Great job. It is no wonder you are getting so much extra business when people see your first-rate work up close.

As an aside, I cannot understand some people's wish to hang a TV over the fireplace. It looks completely out of place to me.

Plus it is too dam high for viewing. The TV needs to be much lower. No higher that 18" to 24" (eye balls line up in the center of the screen) should be used for optima viewing comfort.

Depends where the TV is being used!  I agree with this job Im assuming its a lounge or something  I should be alot lower BUT could be like my in my kitchen I have a 42inch which is on the wall at about the same hight as this TV because  I have a breakfast bar in the middle of the kitchen and so im sitting much higher and alot further away from the TV hence it being a 42inch to make up for it.

Thats why I added the eyeballs to the center of the screen, for though cases were you are NOT sitting in a chair etc.... For every rule there are always exceptions.

When I did my research on big screens 5 years ago they said that where your eyes are that the tv should be 15 degrees higher at that angle. However this and most of the TV's I hang are on a tilting bracket up or down.

Kerg:

Are the Sommerfield protects real that good? I was look at the matched router bits sets he sells. Does a matched set make things like doors that much easer? What about his router bit set-up jig thing. Is it worth the 30 bucks, by making it easy to set up the router bits?

Or his door hinge jig to drill and bore all three hinge holes?

Thanks Greg

The matched router bit sets offered by Sommerfeld were originally manufactured by CMT.  However, Marc had a falling out with CMT and went to the Far East to have them made there.  [sad] The original bits are still offered by CMT but under their product codes, not Sommerfeld's.  One of our own Festool dealers offers the complete line of CMT bits so if you want to head down that path......  [tongue]

As to wether they are that much easier setting up and such, I am attempting to find that out myself.  I ordered the Tongue & Groove set but have not had the time to test them.

Recently, I came across a couple of videos that reference the Sommerfeld setup jig and it appears to work, to some extent, as long as the bits, when installed in the collet, have some room to compress.

I have nothing to say about his door hinge jig, but it does look very interesting and I have not found something similar "out there".

Oh, in case you missed it...  Sommerfeld now offers a setup jig for Freud router bits as well.

I am sure that cmt bits are probably better, but marcs new sets that he makes work great.

as far as the hindge jig for the 35mm hindges, for doors,  I have the blum one and it works great  marc used to sell that one, which I bought from him but now he makes his own and it is about $125 bucks less than blum..  they drill all three holes and have a spacer you turn for difference offsets.  if you do cabinet doors this is the way to go.  I used to use the rockler set up, but it only drilled the 35mm hole... theirs drill all 3 and then you buy the hindges that you just pound in they have a rubber deally bob that fits into the hole.

as far as his set up jig for setting the height of bits, I have that also and sometimes I use it and others times I do not, but it is a cool jig.

when you use marc's bits or cmt bits  you also put a little groment in the chuck of the router so when you crank the bit down it can tighten up and bottoms out on the groument.  (the groment is a little rubber round thing about 1/8" thick)

Thanks Kreg.

My list of wants from Sommerfeldis approaching $1,000. Need to cut it down to around $500. So i'am trying to prioritize my list. Plus it puts of some Festool purchase.  That might not be a bad thing, with all the new Festtools products that we are waiting for.
