Hi all,

I'm new to the forum, been reading for a while now and thought it was time to post some in the members projects section.
In 2011 I wanted to make a bed for my unborn daughter, while browsing the internet I found a design to my liking
It turned out to be a new design and not even in stores available, so all I had was a screecap from the internet

I found the rough dimensions on internet and calculated with the screencap

First I made a template

Transfered to 22mm MDF and rilled the holes for the router
[attachthumb=04]

Routing, no Festool at that time :-(
[attachthumb=05]

Finished routing
[attachthumb=06]

Tried to make the curved sides
[attachthumb=07]

Didn't work like this
[attachthumb=08]

Tried a different method
[attachthumb=09]

That worked
[attachthumb=10]

Made the bottom

Test fit

Cut out the sides

Made some connecting points

Spray painted the sides

The bed can be totally disassembeld into fairly small pieces and can be easily transported
The sleeping section can be raised (now seen in highest position for baby only) and lowered when the she is older.
When she can walk and start climbing also one or two sides can come out so that she can climb out safely herself

Really enjoyed the photo scape. Charming bed, made with much love. Congratulations.

*One recommendation for the future: little tots chew on everything, so anything that you make in the future should have toxin-free finishes. Good luck.

[welcome]

Cute bed! [wink]

Is that a big mechanical/engineering workshop you're making things in?

Hello,

Thanks for your nice comments!

NYC Tiny shop, the paint is indeed child chewy friendly, lol, my brother has a big paint distributing company and advised me to use this.

Kev, its indeed a large mechnical shop where i build this bed, i work there and can use it when i want.
Only problem is that it is not close to my home and our mechanics don't like dust!!
I now have a shop close to my home which is more convinient.

That's great! What paint are you using?

I have no idea, everytime I need paint I ask my brother and then he gives me something that is suitable for the application, free of charge which is also very nice because paint can be quit expensieve product.

They have there own brand which is made in a well known euro factory that I can't recall richt now.
I'll see if I have the can somewhere and let you know.

Nice project! How old is daughter now and does she still use the bed?

Great work. I really like that you showed an image of what didn't work too, that's what we learn from.

Thank you all for the nice comments!

She turns 3 at the end of September, we still use it although the plans are there for a new bed.
No plans on building it my self unfortunatley, time issues  [unsure]
Will sell this one shortley for whatever money I can get for it...
No room or plans in storing it

Bed for the daughter from the father's hands,  is best than to be only bought  for money.

[wink]

Bed is sold for very little money....and off course our little girl needs a new bed.
While stated I had no time to make a new one, I couldn't set myself to bying one.... to be honoust also inspired by Alkaline's comment.
It's not as fancy as the old one but it is a bed, I made it together with my little girl on a spare Sunday, she choose the colour and the drawers.
