Beginner considering a bookshelf project - Need advice

Ya, that! On some projects I will use all and throw in some biscuits depending on the requirements, how much alignment or flexibility and strength I think I need.

For ladder frames (supports for the carcasses, I will use pocket screws, on attaching thick edging to veneered chip board I will use biscuits because I can move them slightly to give me a little leeway when milling and sanding so I don't burn through the veneer. When I am installing I will use dominoes to quickly align pre-finished pieces or for strength.

I use Dominos in concert with pocket screws, Dominos alone, pocket screws alone. T&G joints. Clamps, no clamps...............

After you do a few, you will find what works best for the application.

No one jointing process works for each application.

Do you find dominoes to be a practical faceframe unit assembly (stile to rail) joint?

I have used Dominos on face frame joints. Just Dominos glue and clamps. The advantage to using the Domino is it keeps the faces from "slipping" if I choose to use pocket screws in concert.

Another tip when using pocket screws, do your best to plan that the screws go into edge or face grain, not end grain.

My best guess would be that 80% of my joints are "screwless".

The Dominos keep the parts from moving while you put the screws in. The Dominos also will allow you to place the cabinet piece onto them and let go of it while you do whatever else is needed.  The screws do the clamping.  The Dominos also provide an additional physical connnection , in addition to the screws and glue.

I bought the kit.  After watching some of the videos I believe I'll use it for much more than just assembling cabinets.
