Ya, but that's a pretty piece of glass.

Lol!!! Better be for that price!

Because of her big purchase when we got back to Canada I bought myself a new NEA AR-15 in 5.56 and 223 for my birthday....and she didnt say a thing.....I guess the new toy cost me an extra $750 after all....

Not familiar with the NEA version, only with Colts. There a hoot to shoot [big grin]

i decided a while ago to simplify my life by running only granat on all my sanders regardless of the task.  it is nice only having to stock one abrasive type.

that being said i will typically finish sand any drywall work with granat 220/240

bnaboatbuilder,  i will agree with you if we were talking about hand sanding  150, possibly 180 is usually more than enough for that but when power sanding compound i typically jump up a few grit ranges to experience similar results.  you will find that 120/150 removes material way to quickly with a power sander and leaves too rough of a finish surface.

Personally, I have found the smaller orbitals (ets125/dts400/rts400) to be more effective than their 6" counterparts on patch sanding.

I find that the larger sanders tend to get edgy, with the potential to scallop, while the smaller ones just float around.

I prefer Granat 240.

+1 on this, did my whole bathroom last year with my RTS400 but I used Brilliant2 220

Yes, I agree on the scalloping effect you mention.

I too agree that you have to be careful with the ETS 150 to prevent that from happening. That said, I was getting better results the more i used the sander for this type of sanding. I've ordered the small manual hand sander that festool makes that attaches to the the DC with a smaller and lighter hose to give that a go on smaller jobs where the ETS 150 might be overkill. I just might have to pick up one of the smaller sanders you mention.

i haven't got to use the ets150/5 much yet on the drywall in my basement, but my initial observations are that the 220 granat is fairly aggressive and you really have to move to not take to much.  I also go some 320 abarnet?.  it is amazing on the dust collection and as long as your not taking to much off it seems to be working just fine.  But the dust collection was noticeably better than the granat paper.
