Looking for recommendations on the proper size and type of screws for cabinet box and drawer box construction.  Using 3/4" Ply and 1/2" ply.

If your using a Kreg jig, 1 1/4" for the 3/4, 1" for the 1/2"

Tom

Explain how you plan on building the cabs. that would help us to answer.

GRK Fasteners  R4  9x2''  ubergrade for the boxes and the 8x3 1/8'' ubergrade for hanging the uppers.    For me, the best darn screw I ever used.

Eric

Plain cabinet grade 3/4" ply for garage storage using the 32mm sys, 1/2" ply for the drawer boxes with 1/4" ply bottoms.  Dominoes for alignment.  Which type and size GRK fasteners should I use R4 or Cabinet or both.  No pocket holes.  Will be hanging uppers with french cleats.

I use the R4  multi purpose 9x2" for  18mm ply (3/4").    And I use the  cabinet 8 x 3 1/8" for hanging my uppers.

I domino the fronts backs and center of the boxes, then used four of the R4 9 x 2" drilled into the sides.    Then I made a skin to cover the screw holes, and

attached the skins to the side of the boxes from the inside of the cabinet with the GRK cabinet 8 x 1 1/4".

I have been using GRKs for about six months on all sorts of stuff and im really pleased with them. I also use ScrewProducts.com. Look for free shipping specials. Eric

I came across the GRK on youtube.  Woodcraft carries them, but I found them at my local Home Depot a lot cheaper then woodcraft.

Plus the Home Depot has a bigger selection of sizes.

Erock, when HD starts carrying something thats usually when i bail, but i really like these GRKs. I dont use them for joining FFs. They recommend a trim head screw for this operation and i just doubt the holding power with that set up? Eric

Ive also used buygrkfasteners.com before. They have an endless selection, Eric

+1!!!  HD near me doesn't stock GRK screws, and the vendors that do stock them have a very limited selection.  Don't bother with Fastenal; the price almost doubles over MSRP.  [mad]

I'm not a big fan of Fastenal...their customer service at my local locations is terrible. I also purchase through buygrkfasteners.com. The HD's around me have grk screws but most are the #9 sizes in the R4's.

Lee valley (at least in my area) carry a selected range of GRK's

So R4 8x2" for base and upper cabinet boxes and 8x 3 1/8" cabinet screws for mounting uppers to wall, correct?

Unfortunately, there seems to be a lot of truth in that statement.  However the GRK screws are still good to go.  [wink]
