Best way to scribe and cut out around the bannister

Hi Guys,
I have a new job where the client wants me to scribe around the existing bannister to face frame in a custom built in. The issue I am having is that the piece that is framing the built in is 6 inches wide.

Pull the post and trace it on the face, then cut it?

Pull the post and rip it so the 1x can slide in behind it?

Shrink the left side faceframe to match the right side so you land at the edge of the post?

And shrink the middle one to match, resulting in more open space?

Thats all I got.

Biggest problem is the drop of the pyramid cap on the stair side. You may have to two piece that style, seam at the center of the post. I'm sure you can scribe the hall side of the stile, once that is fitted add the stair side of the stile.

(I'd probably pull the post when they weren't looking).

Yeah, I love it when job how-to is dictated by the customer, don't mind suggestions at all, just don't like them when they make the job more difficult than needs to be and takes a bunch of extra time. (and usually on your own dime)

1) Pull the post because it will look better. There's no way to scribe that 100% the first time. Plus, with wood movement, even if you were 100%, once your molding shrinks, you'll be left with a nice gap anyway. Tell your client that. Cut the post to fit the cabinet.

2) Or use a tool like the multimaster to cut a relief in the post. Chisel out the rest, and tuck your board in behind. It's kind of a bit of both worlds - little bit of cut the post, little bit of scribe.
