BHC 18

I bought one today and its the tiniest lightest sds I have ever used
Ive not used it for real yet but in testing it is very nice, I tried it side by side with my makita 18v and unfortunately it is quite a bit slower but the weight makes up for that [big grin]

I'm toying with the idea of getting a kit with the PDC Quadrill and the BHC, it's offered at slightly more than the PDC Set XL but you get 4x 4.2 ah batteries, which would make a nice cordless kit, I have the Carvex PSC 420, and later might get the TSC 55, then I'd almost have the whole18v cordless line in Festools! The BHC 18 seems quite slick, and when you need a hammer function why settle for anything less than a real hammer drill? The BHC also looks like it works fine with a forstner bit in softwood in the demo video I saw.. But mainly it just looks so awesome... I want it sort of. have used a lousy hammer drill for years, even for some paid work which means I'm just allergic to the horrible vibration/sound levels, so it seems spending a little more for the kit now solves my battery situation and gives me high quality hammer function straight away, The missing elements in the PDC (Angle chuck and the Depth stop) setup  I can slowly upgrade to as the need arises. I'll probably get the Depth stop first..

I LOVE my BHC! [tongue]

I have used it for a number of installs and repairs on a house we are renting for my wife's new assignment in Georgia. Goes through everything like butter! (Also using Festool's SDS drill bits)

I also have the PDC which is a very solid companion to the BHC for drilling.

I also still have a T18+3 that I'll keep primarily due to having the right-angle and eccentric chuck attachments for it.

Oh...and a CXS which is my constant companion.

All four make it virtually impossible to find a task that one of them doesn't do extraordinarily well, but I'm waiting on an 18V true impact drill to complete the "total" family of drivers.

Because of the multiple capabilities of the PDC vs the T18, and the fact that while I really like having the eccentric chuck, I really don't use it very often, I would say the PDC is the wave of the "now".  I can get a right-angle chuck for the PDC if I really needed it, though there is no eccentric chuck available.

Having said that, if I had to make a choice between the two, it would be the PDC hands down.

There is a right-angle chuck available for the PDC and I believe it is included with the "set". However, there is no eccentric chuck for the PDC, though it may be introduced in the future.

The right-angle chuck for the T18 is not compatible with the PDC, thought the centrotec attachment and jacobs chuck are.

I very much doubt that they will bring one out. The PDC isn't a new product, it's an older Protool model rebranded. If they felt there was a need/market for an eccentric chuck, then Protool would have had one years ago.

I found out that the kit deal expired 31 of July 2014, so I'm just going for the PDC base kit with two batteries, the centrotec and standard chuck and a bunch of centrotec stuff instead. The BHC will have to wait for now  [sad]

Actually I'll probably get the TSC 55 with two batt. and one charger or four batt. and two chargers, and just a bare BHC later, That way I'd have either 4 batteries with three chargers or 6 batteries with 4 chargers. I think it makes sense to have a fairly high ratio of chargers to batteries like that when it takes 70min to reach a full charge..

Ideal scenarios would be  6 batteries to be shared among 4 or 5 tools..

I think the BHC is an amazing drill. I seen someone write and compare it to a makita corded power drill. I done the same & the makita is faster in this instance put its getting the full power from the mains. The BHC is my go to drill at the minute all masonery drilling & i got a chuck & use it for drilling & screwing & i find it excellent, plenty of power & no set up so i find the makita waits in the van. Its light &comfortable. I find it a bit heavy & awkward when screwing smaller screws 40mm for long periods say sideways & upside down so am considering getting the DRC for lighter tasks as the BHC is my only drill at the moment. The light is great to, twice i have found myself in tight awkward dark jobs (up over vents & air con & in an converted attic) and the light was invaluable! Before those jobs i reckoned it was a waste of battery & id never need it but it was brilliant when i needed it. Highly recommend this drill

I was comparing it to the makita 18v sds at the start of the thread, the makita is faster drilling holes  but with the small size of the bhc  it makes up for it

I think with my usage, it would make more sense to get the TI 15 impact, or if they release on the TI 18 impact.. But the minute I get a job where I need SDS I'll quickly get my hand on the BHC..
