Hi All,
Just received my BHC 18, used it for a couple of holes seems great.
one strange thing seems to be happening though , if you let the drill sit unused for 3 or 4 mins when you first fully depress the trigger rather than spin, the motor kind of beeps in orderly one second bursts with no movement, soon as you release and depress the drill rotates. seems like some sort of safety device but can't find anything in the manual so maybe a fault?
can anyone cast some light?
thanks
paul

Hi Paul

They all do that and it is quite normal.

It was explained to me a while ago - I can't remember if it is just to prove that the low battery alarm is working or is there as a safety feature.

As Peter says they all do it. It will alsodo it if  the electronics think the battery is discharged. It will run with the discharged battery but as soon as any resistance is met it will stop and beep at you again  Did you fully charge the batteries when you received the machine?
You will find it to be the least fatiguing SDS drill you will ever use and it will handle very large bits. It does drive a very accurate hole which is great for tapcons, thunder bolts etc that work best with accurate holes

Hi peter.

Thanks for your quick reply.
glad to know there isn't a problem.

hi jools,

Both the batteries were near empty when i received the machine so fully charger both and as i say it peeps if the drill has been idle for a couple of minutes.
Thanks all.

Odd, Festool tools never beep just for fun. They only give off an acoustic signal if there is something to warn about. I just read the manual and it mentions nothing about these beeps, except as a warning signal.

I would really confirm this with Festool.

yeah thats kind of what i thought, seems a bit strange me having to pull the trigger twice to start the drill!!

I'm not saying it's wrong or right, but my bhc18 don't do that.
It don't sound great having to pull the trigger twice.
Call festool they will soon tell you.

Hi Molelos
The B.H.C will give an audible sound under two conditions
1. Flat battery
2. Overload

As neither of these two apply in your description then it will need to come into our service shop. Make use of the Service all Inclusive package and fill out the online form on the service tab from our website and we will arrange free collection. If you have any issues with the form then call our offices.
Regards
Phil

Mines got to go back makes a loud rattling  noise and vibrates like mad when you just pull the trigger (when your not drilling)

May I ask why didn’t you mention this “feature” in a video review you made about BHC. I would be certainly annoyed if I bought a drill with a switch that needs to be pressed twice to get it operate.

It is not covered in the instructions and I have assumed that it was normal. The machine works perfectly well. It can be seen (or rather heard) in the video but you are right - I did not mention it.

It's to check how much battery power that you've got left. Press the trigger after sitting idle and it will display the green LEDs on the front. It's very important with the li ion batteries that you don't run them fully down.

Not according to Festool Phil it isn't. Before mine goes back it would be good to clarify if it is indeed a fault or serves a purpose.

Phil is checking this and will report back. Mine beeps the very first time the trigger is pressed and then does not beep again unless it is left for a very long time. So, it may yet be an undocumented feature. Needless to say mine works perfectly in every other respect.

Hi
If your B.H.C makes an audible 'beep' when you first pull the trigger then contact the service department and arrange free collection under Service all Inclusive.
The information i supplied above is correct regarding the two occasions when you will hear the signal.
