Blast gates on the FT Y

Anyone install two blast gates on the FT Y, allowing the user to have two hoses plugged in simultaneously?

I used 2 ABS couplers with a few wraps of electrical tape to join the blast gates to the Y, then I used some gorilla tape to bridge the joint between the Y and the gates.  Because I have effectively reduced the ID of the system to 1.5” (ID of the coupler) it seems that I have lost a little suction. One hose is the Bob Marino 1.5m x 36mm Kapex hose and the other is a typical 3.5m x 27mm standard hose.

Honestly, I got tired of switching hoses when I would cut and sand. If I have to sacrifice a little extraction for the convenience of switching hoses, I will.  If I can improve extraction by coupling the Y to the gates with typical mission couplers, I can do that as well.  I think the loss of extraction is my perception rather than reality, but I would invite others to comment.

I use this setup in my shop.  One connection goes to my chopsaw and the other for general cleanup or tool connection.  I do not see any suction drop off.

Thanks [member=25351]rst[/member] It’s probably my imagination, then. It seems my Kapex has more debris around it than before.  How did you join blast gates to your Y...inside bushings or outside couplers?

My experience is the same as above.

If you're going to use the Y on a Mini or Midi you need an extension tube.

I regularly use the y setup with the FT blast gates as well. If you get the FT blast gates you don't need to use any tape. Normally I run a 27mm and 36mm hose off the CT 26 with a WC, and run the chop saw through the midi. Works great.

I used Festool's Y, it plugs right into vac and their gates plug into Y.  I did use silicone tape to secure the Y as it kept wanting to disconnect.  I actually want to setup another vac location the same way, hoping that the gates show up on Amazon Warehouse.  I bought both other gates at discount...like most Festoys...expensive so I''m willing to wait.

I must have overlooked the FT blast gates. I bought my generic gates at Woodcraft and reverse engineered them to work with the FT Y.

I need to get some braided jumper wire to establish continuity back to the CT.

For sure. I've blown two motherboards using the grey FT hoses.
