Bloggers' Visit to Festool HQ 2017

[member=11196]Peter Parfitt[/member], if I just happened to be in Munich on business, would it be worth an extra day to travel to Festool headquarters and back?  Given the corporate headquarters that I've seen, I'm guessing not, but thought I'd ask since I'll be in the area next year for a week or so.

I do not think that they have any means to entertain casual visitors. I think it has to be by invitation. Perhaps [member=57769]TylerC[/member] can give you a better steer.

If you, or anyone else, ever get the opportunity to visit do not turn it down.

Hi Peter,
Thanks for sharing your experiences at Festool.  I'm not sure about the other bloggers and youtubers (because I do not have experience with their sites), but a very well deserved trip for you.  I always enjoy your videos that explain the products and you have great information that you share with good cheer!  Appreciate your time and effort and Thank You for helping me out with the Festool system, and look forward to your posts in the future!

Regards,
Gerald

Hi Gerald,

You are so very kind. The key to my videos is explaining what the kit is, what it does and how it should be used. It is then up to the viewer to decide if they need it or want to buy it. I try not to be too subjective and encourage people to use what I have told them and then try kit out for themselves in order to make a final decision.

I have managed to find some more clips and have finally found a way of getting Phil Beckley to introduce a piece.

Before I mentioned the new sanding pads with the extra air flow holes. In this clip I show a close up which I hope demonstrates how effective the new pads are. But first here is Phil....

What was he sanding there Peter. It almost looks like sheetrock (gypsum board) that the paper has been sanded through and he's working on the gypsum now. It's doing a nice job of collecting all the dust it appears in the video, no easy feat. Nothing makes a bigger mess than sheetrock dust.

Hi Bob,

Yes, it is plasterboard (gypsum board) just to prove the point because once through the paper it is really dusty stuff.

It was very kind of Phil to let me use his bathroom the other day...

I think that next time I will hang on a little longer !

I found it interesting to see some of the dust get sucked up around the pad and into the slots above it on the sander body.  You can see a trail in the rear slot.

Is this a characteristic of the new pad / paper?  I don't think I've noticed on sanders with the current pads.  I'd have thought with all the extra holes in the pad/paper nothing would be able to escape.

This is an observation, not a criticism. So nobody get their feathers ruffled that I'm raining on the parade.

I have not got any film of the current style pads working close up and certainly not on plasterboard. From my own experience, dust does escape from the edges with the current pads when one is working over an edge.

The video of the new pad does show how that dust get captured even when the sanding pad is halfway across the edge.

I don't know Peter, it's not so bad. I think a little caulk and a dab of paint and you can call it good.  [huh]

Hi antss
The plasterboard is a way the trainers use to show how the dust is collected.....if seen from the underside the volume of dust being cut and the way it is extracted can be seen.

I am not sure if it was in this thread or another one but I mentioned the product testing section at Festool HQ. It is a large section with many different testing regimes. Festool did not allow us to take photographs but they have sent some to me of that area showing various bits of testing.

I had mentioned the drop test and here is a photo of what appears to be one of the new cordless sanders enjoying a bounce (hence the dust in the shot).
