Hello all

I'm new to the LR-32 system and watched Eric's videos on the Poplar Shop channel and used his measurements for the hinges. I thought all Euro hinges were the same but they are not. I have made 2 cabinets so I will need to get his hinges so that they will work with my holes.

I bought some Blum hinges off eBay but no instructions were sent. I can't seem to find the information on where to drill the holes for them. They have a number on them 70T559. When I google that number I can find them but no instructions. Has anyone used these before? Thanks

I was assuming you were talking about boring the doors also. The hinge plates on the cabinets to be set back 37mm from the front edge, give or take a mm or so

70T559  or71T559 ?  I couldn't find a hinge with that number with 70 in the catalog.

In short the mounting plate height and the desired overlay will change the bore distance for the hinge. The mounting plate hole locations should be the same 37mm from the front edge of the cabinet with 32mm spacing.

Here is the chart for the 71T559.

H column is the mounting plate height. Cross with overlay and get bore distance at bottom.

Although info can be found online, I find that having the hard copy Blum hinge catalog very handy.

It is a 70T559 hinge. I did put the hole in the cabinet at 37mm from the edge. I think it needs to go back a little more to work. Going to order some others to work with the holes I already have drilled. Just trying to copy the ones Eric made in the LR 32 series of videos. Thanks

If you are seeing a gap between the door and the cabinet don't try to move the mounting plate back, that gap is always there with Euro hinges if you have much overlay. The hinge body protrudes a certain amount, put a bumper on the handle side. If you get the door too close to the cabinet on the hinge side it won't close all the way.

The hinge is adjustable. The screw farthest from the cup will move the door in or out depending on the direction you turn it.

You do need door bumpers, I prefer stem bumpers over stick ons.

I did stop by Woodcraft today and got some help on picking up some full overlay hinges that mount 37mm from the cabinet edge. I Lined up the news ones nexted to the old ones which seem to have a 7-8 mm deeper mounting set back. I might send Blum a email to find out what do I have here.

You have 2 different versions of clip top hinges .One screws onto the door and has a plate for #6 wood screws. The other is "inserta" which locks into predrilled holes on door using no other fasteners. That was has a screw-on plate that takes #7 screws or 5mm euro screws. (Without seeing the hinge,)  you could say they both accomplish the exact same thing

Another point...the number on the hinge cup is only that...it is not necessarily the number of the hinge, just the cup. Different hinges use some of the same cups. (Always confusing)

Ok thanks for that info. I will have to play around with some scraps to find how far back from the edge to drill the holes in the cabinet.

Edge of 35 mm hole is frequently 3mm, sometimes 4mm or more.

Another thing..don't drill 8mm holes if you plan on screwing on the hinge (unless you also plan on using plastic dowels. 8mm holes work with inserta style hinges.

Tom, do you have a link for the stem bumpers you like to use? A part number I can transfer would be just as appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks again for the info. Now I just need to find the set back for the cabinet panel for the mounting plate

Can you take a picture and post it of the issue you're trying to resolve? If not explain the issue you're trying to resolve? All of the Blum back plates I haver installed are set back 37 mm from the front edge of the panel face. I have a Blum field jig that catches the front edge of the panel with pilot holes at 37 mm.

I use the clear ones, order them by the 1000 quantity.

Thanks for the post Tom, I've always used the stick-on variety and they sooner or later, always fall off.

My problem is the door sticks out to far due to the hinge plate that I mounted 37mm from the edge. As you can see in the picture I line up the cups and the one hinge is longer which pushes out the door. I'm thinking it needs like a 46 mm set back.
