Blum undermount upgrade ?

I recently finished a set of end tables for our study.  First time using the 563H undermount slides.  My wife uses hers a lot, while sitting in the chair next to it.  The physics don't allow her to open the drawers easily.  You need a little bit of effort to open these even when you are standing in front of them.  I just looked into the Tip-On version of these slides.  Is it possible to upgrade what I have to enable this feature, or do I have to buy a new, full set of the slides to install?  And if I do have to buy a new set ($80, really ?), do they install the same so I can just remove the old set and put in the new set?

I believe you can add the tip-on opener to the standard soft-close Tandem slides. Blum's Tandem page implies that you can, but I haven't found where it is spelled out.https://www.blum.com/us/en/products/runnersystems/tandem/programme/

I used the Tip-on slides to make a trash can pull-out for my kitchen. It works very well, and has performed flawlessly since putting it in about 3 years ago. And yes, the heavy duty slides with the tip-on pre installed run 80 bucks a pair. [blink]

Tip On was a feature you could add on to the previous Tandem slides that were named  562. You cannot add on to 563 tho. Tip On is now used with the Blum movento slide

Maybe I should ask this another way.

Does anyone have experience with replacing existing 563H with the push to open version?  Can I use same install cut outs/holes or do I have to design up front knowing I am going to use the push to open version?

Specs are same for slides, same hole drilling...Movento slide requires a larger notch in the back of drawer box and uses different clips....you coyld try to find old stock 562 slides and old stock tip on addition

Thank you for the tip.  Seems most of the Movento stuff is as hard to find as the regular slides.

I’m not sure I am comparing the same thing.  (A & H Turf’s site is dreadful.)

But it seems it is 26.00 on their site.  No mention on delivery in the site.  I always order on the phone to make sure that I am getting what I think I am ordering.

I did not change to Movento.  Honestly, I got a little overwhelmed and stuck with the the regular 563 slides.  At the time I had hard enough issues just finding the 563s, did not want to then go look for the others that may have been harder to find.  I don't know if thats still the case though.

The fall-out of the events of the last few years is still being felt in this area. Back when I started building my daughter a new kitchen, Blum was unobtanium, I ended up using Grass. They worked out great. The whole thing was such an upgrade from where it started, she loved it.

Are you just changing the slides or are you trying to go to push to opens? If you’re just looking to change the slides stick with the 563H.

If you are trying to go PTO you need the Tip-On triggers. If you are going PTO let us know, I can get you through this.

I'm thinking of going PTO and was hoping there was a way to retrofit the 563. I saw an old video that mentioned TIP-ON but it was for the 560 slides. Though, watching the video again, it looks like the accessories are marked 56X so maybe this does work?

Keep in mind that the push-to-open feature practically invites hand contact and the resulting soiling of the surface. 

With a very dark wood finish like this walnut, probably not much of an issue.  But for most finishes, a concern.

And even if it does not discolor the surface, the hand oils can (and often do) soften the finish.

Even automotive finishes are susceptible to this.  I had a Ford station wagon in the early 70s.  A base model and the door interiors featured painted steel for part of the door, notably the part of the door I would rest my arm on when driving with the windows open. 

Eventually, that area got dark colored and I could scrape part of the paint off with my fingernail.  Note:  This was the same painted finish as on the exterior of the car. 

So, even if your drawers have metal pulls, once you install push-to-open as a feature the pulls will not see much use.  People will push whatever area that is convenient and pull the rest of the way by grasping the top edge of the drawer. 

There might be an occasional person who dutifully uses the handles exclusively, but finding that an entire family does so, sounds like wishful thinking.  I’m not a fan except if you are using high pressure laminate drawer fronts.  And even then, you will be cleaning the surface to keep it looking good.
