Iam building speaker covers out of marine grade ply for a boat. The boat is used in fresh water . What finish should I use . I did some research and found sikkens and epiphanes are popular choices.  I have not used either.

Epifanes and Pettit make excellent products. You can also use Smith’s Penetrating Epoxy to seal the wood prior to varnishing your speakers.

Are the wooden surfaces vertical or horizontal or both? Some Sikkens products are for vertical surfaces only because they lack a fungicide or mildewcide additive.

The penetrating epoxy is a great suggestion. Here's a video from Jamestown Distributors. They offer a lot of different finishes.

I’ve used quite a bit of Smith's Penetrating Epoxy and all the West Systems Epoxy products.  You must wear a respirator when working with Smith’s and really should be using one with thinned epoxies.  Surprised the guy in video isn’t wearing gloves and a respirator.  I see the product he’s using is low VOC but he added denatured alcohol to it.  Maybe I’m missing something?
