        ABOUT BOB MARINO

What About Bob?

I am a 53 year old Festool Dealer (since January 2002) hobbyist woodworker, born in Brooklyn, New York, and currently residing in Glen Ridge, New Jersey with my wonderful wife, Arlene and our beautiful 9 year old daughter, Margaret. In the last few years, woodworking has become more than a passing interest, really a consuming passion, and I do value my hobbyist stature greatly.

What is the Festool Connection?

A few years back I attended a Woodworking show and while there, saw the Festool products being demonstrated. I had read a few snippets here and there about Festool tools, and decided to take a closer look. I found that each of Festool's tools was a little unique compared to other manufactures' tools. The overall quality of the tools was also better than what I was accustomed to. The Festool sanders were very, very smooth and they had this hole in the pad's center for better dust extraction. The Festool CT vacuum had adjustable suction; I had never seen that before. The router and circular saw (ATF 55) rode on a guiderail; I had never seen that before either. I owned a good jigsaw, but the Festool jigsaw had these little carbide guides (similar to bandsaw guides) that solved a problem I had with my jigsaw and that was getting a true 90 degree cut while cutting thick and/or curved stock. I ended up buying that jigsaw and was so thoroughly impressed with the jigsaw and the other Festool tools I had handled, that I began mentioning my experience with these tools on the Woodworking forums. A few months later I acquired the Festool CT 11 dust extractor and ES 150/3 sander and was absolutely and totally wowed by their performance and began recommending them and posting my findings on the forums. Well, after a while I decided that these were tools (and a Company) that I would be proud in representing. Festool's were not ordinary tools, but tools of unique design, engineered to solve problems. They are made with the highest level of quality for those who need the highest level of durability, safety and efficiency. I also was intrigued by the approach Festool has set up for selling these tools. All Festool tools and accessories are the same price, no matter who sells them. While certainly a very different approach to marketing as compared to other manufacturers, this has many benefits to consumers and dealers. The customer doesn't have to spend time searching the web or making calls trying to find the "best deal". They contact a Festool dealer (me) and can deal with me directly. A good dealer comes to know their customers specific needs and requirements; Festool dealers essentially compete on service rather than price.

Why Purchase From Bob?

Knowledge - I have been a Festool dealer since January 2002! Festool tools are the only product line I sell; I know the product thoroughly. I offer honest and knowledgeable advice to any and all who contact me. I use the tools for my woodworking projects and am familiar with them "hands on". I like the tools, I wouldn't be selling these tools if I didn't believe them to be the best available, anywhere.

Availability - I am available by phone long past the hours of operation of most vendors. Weekends and nights are ok (oh, about 10 PM is good!) and if not available right then and there I will be sure to get back to you ASAP. I am also available via email and I do answer my emails promptly. Festool demonstrations are available on request for those in the area.

Support - One of the most important aspects of sales is post sale availability. My customers, are never "left hanging". If you have a question or issue, I will offer a solution as quickly as I can so you can get back to work. You are buying world class tools and I provide the same world class service to back them up.

Customer Comments:

Bob has always had a well deserved reputation for providing outstanding customer service. However, this went way beyond the call of duty. To me, it just proves the point that once you find a good thing, you stick with it. Hopefully, there will be additional Festool purchases in my future. If so, they will all be through Bob. — Jack H., NJ

I will put it this way. Bob has been so nice to me that I would go out of my way just to buy a Festool tool just to deal with Bob again. — Paul C.

I have bought almost every tool Festool makes. I have been trying to imagine how Bob Marino could have been more helpful, and I can't. — Ed M.

Thanks for your offer of a catalogue to my colleague in New York.  Of course, I mean the new one when it comes out.  I guess the T shirt was made somewhere other than the US or Germany - or my wife put it in the dishwasher rather than the washing machine!

A couple of years ago, Bob was at woodshopdemos to investigate an idea or two we both had. I had met him at some shows and read all his good advice here, but his commitment to Festool and Festool knowledge became very apparent when he traveled 2 or 3 states worth so that we could test some ideas. I don't forget that kind of commitment and interest.
I have some shop assistants who look better, but no one who is more committed.

Hi Bob, Thought I would take you upon the offer to connect via email.

I am thinking about buying a Festool ROS150E or the ETS150 EQ and a CT22 DC. I do not own any Festools so this will be my first experience.

My first application of the ROS will be to refinish a flight of stairs, about 12 steps. I know that the ROS will not reach the corners but I thought that the ROS would make a good all-round sander.  I would appreciate your advise and comments on selecting the right tool.

Will I be able to use the DC on my Router table Vac port?

If you had access to only one sander which would you chose?

What are the tradeoffs between the ETS and the RO series?

Thanks Ed

Hi Ed,

I sent you a response via email, but figure I can post it here also.

The RO 150 and ETS are 2 very different  sanders, yet they do have similarities - they are both 6" sanders and share the same papers. The RO 150 is a dual mode sander rotary action for aggressive sanding and polishing and at the flip of a dial, turns into a ros with a 5 mm orbit. It is louder, heavier and has more vibration (though not too much) than the ETS sanders. It is  more versatile and waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay faster for your application. It is truly an " all in one" type of sander.
The ETS sanders come with either a 3 mm or 5 mm orbit. The 150/5 is more of a general purpose sander and the 150/3 is more a finish type sander, best suited for grits of 120 and up.
Both sanders are  less $$$$, lighter and smoother than the RO 150, but at the expense  of the versatility of the RO.
Your call, but if I were doing stairs, I'd opt for the Rotex.
It would depend on the size of your tables's port. The CT has enough suction, you would just have to get the correct adapter.
I don't like to push, but I think you'd be impressed with t he Festool tools.

More questions, please ask.

Regards,

Bob

Bob is the best!

I originally ordered from another online festool dealer exactly 3 weeks after I placed my order they told me they had bad news and that almost my entire order was on back-order. I asked them to cancel the balance of my order and I called Bob the same day.  He had everything in stock (ts55, OF1400, CT33, Domino, MFT, + odds and ends) and it shipped the next day.  I will be receiving it Monday and have already received tracking #s.

Bob took the time to review my list to make sure I wasn't missing anything and was very proactive making sure my order would arrive when I needed it.

You can't go wrong ordering from Bob...thanks.

Eric

Hi Bob,

Do you have any CT22's?

I ordered one from Force Tools in Union a month ago and am still waiting.

I'm told it will be mid June now.

I like the guys at Force a lot, but I am getting frustrated when I could have ordered it online and had it a month ago.

Thanks.

Can attest to the great service as well.  Very responsive, and even did a follow up email to make sure everything was right.

Can't wait to order more from him.

Jon

I placed an order on the 26th and a box was on my doorstep this afternoon.  WOW.  How much sugar do you feed your shippers?

Another great experience.

Bob  [thumbs up]

Back when I made my first Festool purchase I drove 2-1/2+ hours to a Rockler store (after spending time here & other places asking questions) and purchased a little over $3,000 of Festools.  They were nice guys but at the time I felt that I almost had  more knowledge about Festools than they had.  My next 3-4 orders were at McFeely's and I have to say that I have been very pleased with their support & knowledge.  Now, hearing all of the goodness about Bob Marino's Festool Store I will give him some business in the future.

I have ordered two major Festool  items from Bob in the last couple of weeks and have been extremely impressed with the speed of shipping and the security of packing. No question that I will order from him again when I need another Festool item.

Glad to see this old thread revived.  Bob is a true class act.  I have placed several orders with him over the last few years, and have nothing but rave reviews.  There are some other good dealers who contribute to the forum, but you can't go wrong with Mr. Marino.
