Bonsai Stands

My wife has been growing Bonsai.  I made two Bonsai stands from some live edge walnut I had left from another project.  I tried two different styles.

Here some pictures with and without a Bonsai.

I really like your first design. I feel it fits the bonsai motif best. Looks great!

Nice Bob...I like the second example for the dovetails and the first example for the design esthetics. Maybe a hybridized third offering is in the future?

That's a really lovely base design on the first table.  Bravo.

Very nice. And great use of off cuts too.

Thanks for all of the comments.

I have enough of the walnut left for one (maybe two) more stands.      I may try out some other design ideas.

Yesterday I was trying out my Leigh jig to make box joints.  First time I had done that.  I used some of the cedar I had left over from the planter boxes.  My wife saw the result, and now that is also a bonsai stand.  I think the unfinished cedar is a nice contrast to the bonsai.

Beautiful tables and Bonsai.  The first table is arguably the best one.

Bob, nice work I like the first one design.
I have a friend that’s into bonsai and keeps telling me I need to make some stands.

The work is beautiful, and I hope this doesn't come off wrong, but I am a woodworker who also grows Bonsai. My trees need to live outside for proper light, and must be watered daily.

Are these stands for a singular use - like a show or something? There's no way I could get away with putting those outside in the weather with runoff from the watering system on them daily.

I opened the thread cause I was curious about ideas for my trees in their natural environment. Just wondering the purpose for these beautiful stands.

Thanks!  They are for showing or bringing them into the house.    Except maybe for the cedar one, they are not intended to live outside.

My wife's bonsai also live outdoors.

[member=66813]rmhinden[/member] I love the first design. May I ask what finish you used for that one  [embarassed]

Thanks, that is my preference too.  I have enough wood left for another one with a similar style.

The finish is General Finishes (water based) High Performance Satin.  I wanted something reasable durable and had it on hand.
