This bookcase was designed and made for a customer who just bought a new old-house.  It's what we in Belgium call a "herenhuis" (translated that would be a "gentlemen's house").  The house is about 150 years old and is in the centre of Antwerp, a beautiful building.
I also restored the floor, there where some pieces missing, and fixed a couple of windows and doors.

Festools used:
CS 70 for the miters, OF1010 for the flutes, C12 to put everything together.

ps: the doors are pre-ordered, MDF 18mm, routed with a CNC, and the crown moulding is also pre-order the rest of the cabinet is custom made

I hope it's inspiring

Absolutely beautifully done.  It is difficult to call this woodworking.  I would call it artistry.  I am sure that we all look forward to seeing further displays of your skills.

Thanks for sharing, nice work! I like the mitre detail of the dental moulding, and the old style adjustable shelving. Do you have a picture that shows a detail of the rosette-like knobs at fixed shelve-height on the fluted styles? The crown at the ceiling is that wood or plaster? Lot's of ceiling details aswell.

O ja, en groetjes uit de Limburgse Kempen  ;)

Excellent work.  I agree that the detail wwell thought out - especially the dentil molding.  I am always frustrated when someone asks for dentil molding.  Your job shows like that of a true professional.

GREAT JOB.  WE WANT MORE!!!

Peter

Thanks everyone for the kind words.

The crownmoulding is wood, pretty expensive €45/lm (excl. VAT), it's from Hoebeek and called "White River" moulding.  I had to cut it flat, and it had to be right the first time, never done anything like it.
The old style adjustable shelving is also bought like that (at Van Opstal), and it's very reasonable priced.
The rosette's are custom made and are not much more than a 60x60mm pine cut at a bevel of I believe 15? on the four sides and then cut to length, which is about 20mm.

thanks again for looking and posting your thoughts.

Cheers, Hans

Hey Woodenfish,

the floor is European oak, the inlay's I can only guess...

The books on the shelves really tie it all together. I'd love to walk into a room like that every day. The lighting is a great touch too. A+++ in my book.  ;)

Metthes -

Wonderful craftsmanship.  Those really came out beautifully.

Thanks for sharing -

Nice work!!!

How tall are the ceilings in the flat? The bookshelves are well proportioned for the room in my opinion.

Dan Clermont

Hello Dan,

The ceilings are about 400cm high.  I've added the sketch I made for the customer it includes some very basic measurements.

Beautiful work, thank you for sharing.  Dumb questions about the last couple of pics:

(1) are there lamps installed behind the crown moulding above the bookshelves?
(2) if so, can you tell me what kind of lamps they are?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

John

Hey John,

there are indeed lamps behind the crown, there is one TL (Tungsten?) tube of 120cm on each case.

Thanks for the interest.
