Bookshelf speaker boxes

im a concrete geek, is there any hope in casting a decent sounding box?

how are you predicting the response of the box? online calculators etc...?

for reference i just finished a masters in architecture which involved sound and space and 3d sound modeling

Interesting...thanks [member=63059]HAXIT[/member] for posting the info.

Speaking about concrete...I had a set of Wharfedale W60 speakers in the 60's that used sand filled panels for dampening.

Concrete has also been used for turntable bases for years.

Yeah sand is good. I built a set a few years ago that used 2x 6.5" carbon fibre coned woofers in each box. Thesw drivers were crazy, the bass they generated had everyone that heard them searching for a sub! The box worked out to be 850mm high but the client wanted finished height of 1200mm on speaker stands. I suggested making the box 1200mm high taking out the stands, and having a sealed compartment in the base of the box filled with dry sand. That took the sound to another level.
