I am wondering about the best use of the Boom arm I would like to use both 36 & 27 mm hoses with various tools sanders router kapex domino etc should I try to use both or make up a short  27mm add on ? I have the hoses so just need your thoughts for best use. I look forward to your input and suggestions
Thanks in advance Peter

I tried hanging both hoses for awhile.  Too much hassle - trying to keep the unused hose out of the way.

I eventually made a pigtail so I keep the 36 hose and then use the tail for tools requiring 27mm connections.

I have my 36mm hose attached to the clips on the boom arm, and the 27mm hose attached to the boom with duck tape. I don't find one gets in the way of the other when I am using it, although I tuck the unused hose out of the way.

Thanks for input guys
Richard which hose do you use with which tool, I'm trying to set up a shop where there are three Festool extractors available and most of the shop tools available in Europe ie CMS, Precisio, Kapex Domino, Routers Sanders etc etc
Let me know your thoughts please

I use the 36mm hose with the router and the TS55, and the 27mm with the sanders and the Domino.

I don't have a Kapex or any of the other tools you mention, but if you have more than one CT vac, why not use the 36mm with one and the 27mm with the other?

What I thought was to have a permanent 36 mm connection to the Kapex  and another to the Precisio, using the last extractor with the boom arm and maybe two hoses for the other tools sounds ok but just not totally convinced ?

I always have both size hoses mounted from my Boom Arm:

This is an older photo, so here is what I would suggest different that what you see here.

  • The larger D36 is a tight fit within the hose brackets, so I suggest that you route the smaller D27 hose through the brackets and hang the D36 separately.
  • The easiest way to attach a second hose is to use large rubber bands.  The hose brackets each have two built-in cord hooks -- one on either side.  Simply hook one end of a rubber band on the cord hook on one side, stretch around the hose you wish to add and then hook onto the cord hook on the other side.  Repeat at each bracket as needed.
  • Mount a plugit cord for each hose.  I use velcro straps, but you may want to try one of the other methods shown here on the forum instead.  You might also consider a plug splitter or similar device where the plugit cord(s) plug into the heaver cord supplied with the Boom Arm so that you do not have to change back and forth as needed.
  • The hose you are not using can easily wrap back around the upper portion of the boom arm.

Enjoy your Boom Arm.  You will wonder how you ever made do without it.  [big grin]

Corwin many thanks for your thoughts and pic, I have seen that a 27mm pigtail is often used with a 36 mm hose for use with sanders especially, would that be something you would consider or is the two hose set up better for you.
Which tools work better with which hose ? So many thoughts just don't want to cut into a hose and get it wrong
Thanks again

I haven't tried the Dave Ronyak Adapter, but it looks like a great solution.  However, I do see two disadvantages to that; the added length of hose means you probably need to adjust the cord accordingly, and the additional weight and bulk of additional fittings so close to the tool may not be as nice as just a single hose.  If you go this route, I'd suggest purchasing the adapter from one of the dealers here that make them up, rather than shortening your D27 hose.

My opinion is that all but the sanders could benefit from the larger hose, but a few of the other tools require the adapter due to their dust ports -- however, you can also get a tool-end fitting for the D36 that will fits those smaller ports, Here is one thread that discusses this but I cannot seem to find the other thread right now...  Keep in mind too that the smaller hose is a little more flexible, thus handles a little better in use that the larger hose, so the smaller hose is better for sanding than using the larger hose with an adapter.  Anyway, I don't mind hanging the two hoses from my Boom Arm, and it allows me to use the larger hose for those tools that produce more waste and the smaller hose for sanding.  If you take my prior advice and install the D27 in the Boom Arm's brackets, then you could simply attach the large D36 hose as described with the rubber bands -- easy on, easy off  -- as needed if you prefer.

If this post doesn't read as good as it could, it is because of the late hour and way past my bedtime...   [scared]

I've found that using Velcro straps provides a good, tight attachment.  They're available at Home Despot, among other places.
