Hi all,

Does anyone have pictures of the boom assembly including how it attaches to the vac?  Also, thoughts on how it affects the mobility of the vac would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Thanks Rusty, Just looked at it.  Does anyone know how the outriggers work?  Do they just swing to the rear to allow you to move the vac?  Thanks.

Hi Bill,
The outriggers fold to the sides of the vac for transport.
The cross bars then simply store in the openings of the outriggers at the top.
I bought mine reluctantly. but I absolutely LOVE it.
No hose or cords to step on, it swings away when needed.
If you want a pic let me know.

Hi Bill,

I have the boom on my CT 22, but have never put the out riggers on...

I did add a "Y" to stop the "kink" in the large D50 hose section that comes with the boom arm assembly.  I also "rotated" the top two hose connectors on the boom arm to one side so it passes thru a 6'8" doorway.  The boom arm comes off the vacuum easily.  But when it's the season to again start working out of my truck again (think Spring!!!!  :) ) the handle will have to be removed....  not sure how easy the handle will be to come on & off.....

All-in-all the boom is a great addition.  I seriously would have never considered the expense of the boom arm, if it hadn't been from the very positive feedback from the members of the FOG.

And Bill "Thanks" for all the great pictures of the Domino in action.  There goes another $1k....

I put the outriggers on........
but have never had a need for them.
The CT 33 has always been stable enough for
my needs.

I took the outriggers off completely. They just got in the way when moving around the vac. I keep a heavy systainer on top and it's stable enough.

Thanks all.  What about the power cord?  Is that attached to the boom and what do you folks with ATF55's do without a plugit?

Thanks.

Hi Bill,

Ya the detachable power cord is sweet...

But on my Festool power tools; AFT 55, AFT 65, DX 93, RS 2 & RAS 115 they have to plug in directly to the CT 22 to trigger the vacuum.  When I use on of these tools with the Boom, I swing the detachable cord back out of the way & hook it to the Boom arm on one of the "extra" hooks on the black plastic brackets toward the back of the vacuum that hold the hose/detachable power cord.  Thus it loops back on itself, I do this also when moving the vacuum with Boom on also.  I also don't use the very bottom black bracket for the vacuum hose to get a little more length out of the hose, thus this "spare" hose bracket allows me to loop the hose also out of the way when not in use or when moving with the Boom arm on.

On the non-detachable cord tools I will plug it into the vacuum then used the "extra" hook on the very tip or last black plastic bracket that holds the hose/detachable cord to run the cord from over head & avoid the cord coiled at my feet.  However cord is "just" a little shorter than the vacuum hose & does not work quit as well as when I use it with a detachable cord tool.

Hello Bill

As stated earlier the total height with hose to one side on the boom is 80 inches. The out riggers can be moved in to the sides and easily moved up without the x braces being mounted. This adds maybe three inches to overall width. If you feel you need the outriggers you just slide them down to touch the floor. On top of the extractor I have mounted a nine drawer Sortainer, then hose Systainer and on top of that a drill Systainer. It has never turned over.I am sure it would be possible, but has not been a problem for me.Mobility no problem. When I take it out to do a job it will come apart at 55 inches. This is a slip joint that could have a bolt that I do not put in. I also find very helpful velcro ties from Lee Valley item
(EA 172). This makes tool change out much better. The amount of wire needed varies with different tools. The Plug-it makes tool change fast. I agree that we need the adapters for the tools that do not have them. Not available in USA.

Hello Everybody,

The Boom arm's outriggers can be installed towards the front of the ct vacuums with the cross pieces going underneath the vacuum. This does give you a little bit less foot print to get in the way.

Hey Bill,

I am sure glad you brought up this topic, as I am expecting my new Boom Arm to arrive this coming week!  Several of the questions that I have had have now been answered.  Priceless!

There's two things I'd like to have at the end of the power cord, an adapter from plugit to a standard 3 prong socket and a remote trigger vac switch.  I hate having to squeeze the trigger of my power tool while I have the vac in the other hand clearing debris.

Here is a shot of mine.

What do I think of the Arm?

Best thing since sliced bread, I think so highly of it

in fact, we will be getting another. (I have two 22s)

As for the plugit's. I just taped a orange three way on.

There is more then enough room for 3 cords.

Per,

In all the pics I've seen, I never noticed an extension cord.  In the attached pic, it looks like it has the extension cord.

It appears from your boom pic has some form of heavy extension cord from the CT22 socket to the base of the boom arms angled part (where it angles forward).  Then the PlugIt cord plugs into the extension cord.  I looks like the extension cord is roughly the length of the fat hose.

I don't see much info on the Festool website.  So...

Did this extension cord come with the Boom arm?  Did you add it?

Thanks,

Dan.

Dan,

Both the extension cord & the D50 come as part of the Boom kit.  The handle which is required for the Boom kit is sold seperately.

Actually perhaps the most convenient thing to do would be to install a 16 ga plugit on the boom where I circled in the photo and then splice in a 3 prong connector where it is easily reached.  What does an extra heavy gauge cord cost?

Bill,

Here's a photo that shows the Boom Arm attached to the CT.
sh,

Perhaps McFeely's should edit that pic to show what's actually included.  While one can download the assembly instructions and discover what comes with it, I think a more descriptive picture or text would help keep your customers from being surprised when they opened the box.  To me that pic looks like I get all the hose and no cord.

Thanks.

Bill,

Thanks for the recommendation.  I have modified the Boom Arm product page to include an image which shows the labeled components of the Boom Arm package.  It would not be easy to photograph the individual pieces since there are so many.  It would just look like a pile of plastic and tubing  :)

Take a look at the improved page.  I welcome your feedback.  Sorry it took so long, I had to track down the documentation that came with the one we use here in our workshop.
