Bosch/makita plunge saw to allow for Domino...!

Hi every body,

Well I must say I am loving my new plunge cut ripping saw and I am very impressed with the battery life.

I have now realised that the amount of dust and debris that is created whilst cutting is quite staggering so Ishall look into the Starmix vacuums.

Also I think I desperately need to invest in a bench to allow me to cut square as the timber I have bought in 4metre lengths is horribly bowed and makes the shelving project for the garage look horrible.

Regards

Just an added thought...

•does the Bosch cut as accurately as the 55???
•if I am looking at a shop vac and if I consider the Festool Systainer version, would I be better to spend the extra 150€ and get the Festool 55 to make full use of the automatic on off function when used in conjunction with the Systainer vac?

Thank you for your patience with my naive newbie questions!

Yes, the Bosch cuts as accurately as the TS55. I have had both the TS55 and the GKT55CE and I kept the Bosch since I like the Bosch/Mafell rail system better. The smoothness of cut from the Bosch is at least as good as on Festool. I even think I have gotten better results with the Bosch blade. Both are great saws.

Hi, a few things:
  • Before diving into the FT MFT vortex, you might want to read up here on some of the DIY MFT discussions, and the similar stuff on YouTube.
  • Not to rain on your parade, but I would have recommended against a battery sucking machine like a 55mm saw.  That's the kind of tool that is better left w/ a cord unless you anticipate frequently using it in locations that don't have a cord option.
  • Doing landscaping projects, you will be using a lot of heavy timbers, not small, furniture gage hardwoods, so the 75mm saw AND the Domino XL are the better choices IMO.  The 55mm saw will quickly become useless when you decide to cut some beveled wood or get into some still soaking wet pressure-treated 2x or greater material.
  • I have the Makita, and as others here have noted, it performs slightly better than the FT saw and has better features.  Also, the Makita tracks are cheaper and pretty much identical to the FT.  I got my Makita from Amazon w/ a 55" track for $400 delivered.
  • Shop vacs:  The FT system is mighty good, and so are the Fein and Bosch, plus a couple others.  Personally, some of these tools make so much dust that I use a Fein setup modified with a Thien separator to collect all but the very smallest particles BEFORE they hit the shop vac's collection environment, and this saves a lot of time and money.
