Bought used CS70, won't start. SOLVED! Not stupid.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!
Just pulled out the springed pin from the brush and put the brush back, (the other brush was fine) and put the motor back in and the machine ran like crazy!

So we just found a solution for the problem, machine works fine. Now I'll order some new brushes and keep myself from playing with the machine until they're installed.

Thanks for all the input! That was a nice first FOG experience.

Congratulations - I like your style  [smile]
Sure to really enjoy the machine.

Oh, and  [welcome] to the FOG.

I think we might just have been a little smarter than the previous owner. He worked on it for years and then it quit working and he must've been too stubborn to look at the manual. He probably opened up the motor like me (I noticed some unimportant screws were missing) and did NOT find the problem.
He gave it to his friend for the yard sale, who thought he might get away with saying it's in good condition and who had no idea of Festool pricing.

So I basically got a perfect machine for next to nothing. That'll make me sleep well tonight.
Thanks again you all!

I'm not one of those guys, just a guy who has read a ton of posts here.  Festool does integrate protection in their tools in the brushes to protect the expensive parts from brush wear.  It might cut short the brush usage but saves on the repairs.

Have fun with it!

Those carbon brushes with safety are often used in tools.  Changed a couple just yesterday in a Ø125mm Bosch grinder.

Hi Ruben,

Glad to hear that you were able to find a solution for your Festool CS 70. I ran into the same exact issue and I highly presume its the brushes. On the manual, Festool says to change the brushes, you need to send the machine over to a specialized workshop. However, I am in Kenya. No such workshop available here. I can order in the Part (2 pairs Festool brushes). Are you able to guide me on how to change the carbon brushes? Do I just need to swap the brushes or the holder too? Will appreciate your quick revert.
