I was asked to install a box beam (for appearance) to a ceiling. The purpose, to help separate the kitchen area from the family TV viewing area. The span is about 20 foot. I am considering using either 1" x 6 " x ?' in length boards or 3/4" thick veneer plywood. I would cut the ply to width and length using a TS55. Currently, there are, double stacked, 2 x 6" boards screwed into the ceiling spanning the room. The box beam would be attached to these. Would a Domino be useful for butt joining boards end to end? Would the Domino joints look better than a 45° miter cut where the boards are joined. The request also include making some flutes on the beam. I did some practice cuts on scrapes using my OF 1400 Router and the guide. For a first attempt these look great.
The intent is to stain or varnish the beam. So attention to detail is critical for appearance sake.
Thanks
John
