broken hose garage on Mini

I have a mini vac that I am really pleased with. The hose garage has had a crack in it for some time now. Yesterday while working on the floor I used the mini to lean on while getting up. To make a long story short I came up with a hand full of plastic. I am thinking of making something with wood to take its place.I have always kind of wanted to put hooks on the side to store the cord and will incorporate this into the project.
If anyone has any suggestions or ideas please let me know, they will be appreciated.

Chris,

Regardless of hose garage durability it will be interesting  to see what useful mods  people have come up with.

  Please post pics and ideas.

Not sure about the Mini, but mines broke on my 26, I just ordered a new one and learned not to use it as a step

I'd be curious also, but am thinking the quickest fix is to simply order another hose garage and treat it with care. I also happen to think that the garage would be better served if it were either thicker plastic or had a touch of rubber or other such material so it would be stronger, less brittle. Pretty much, even with good packing, if shipping damage occurs with a vac, it's with the hose garage.

I’ve broken one on my CT 26 and it didn’t take much.  I always thought it would be a good idea to reinforce the garage from the underside with fiberglass cloth and resin.  I intended to do this earlier this summer, but didn’t when I discovered that I had discarded the broken garage and I didn’t want to risk a chemical reaction with my perfectly new garage.  If I break another one, I intend to immediately experiment with cloth and resin to see if that wrecks the plastic.  If everything works out, I will definitely be reinforcing my CT garages. I don’t think it will prevent breakage, but I di think it will minimize breakage.

Bob, have you passed this on the higher ups at headquarters ?

I'm sure they're convenient for hose storage, but so is just about any other appropriately sized box, of cardboard, systainer plastic etc etc.  The bottom line is that these vacs are in most ways fine with the rather grave exception of their ludicrously vulnerable & fragile garages.

It's also a fact that there's a very large range of alternative machines available, from Festo/ol, Kraenzle & literally dozens of others that make extractors as well & better than those models with their rubbish weak plastic superstructure.  If you don't want to store your hose/s in a box/systainer, then just occy-strap it to the tool's handle or something.  There's little justifiable reward in persevering with such an inferior tool when there's just so many great alternatives available.
