Morning guys,

Need to build some drawer sides for a cabinet built. Can't seem to find any prefinished local. May just build them from baltic birch ply. Which is better, 1/2 inch or 5/8. Sides are 10 nch high.

thanks

1/2" will be fine, a little lighter, and a little cheaper, and will give you a little more room inside the drawer box.

1/2" is good.
Depends on construction. I have cheap and cheerful 1/2" melamine chipboard drawers 9 1/2" deep (rabbeted) that are glued and stapled. I have heavy pots in them and they are used everyday. They are strong drawers.

My stock drawer is 1/2" sides and fronts.  I almost never build a drawer taller 9" because the contents at bottom tend to get lost.  I have moved away from 1/2" bottoms for a couple of reasons, first most 1/4" is more like a heavy 1/8", and secondly 3/8" gets rid of that "tinny" sound of thin drawer bottoms.

What will the drawers be used for?
It has a bearing on what materials to use (pun unintentional ;D) also method of jointing the box, and proposed runner system (self made wooden slides or bought in self closers). 3/8" to 1/2" (9 to 12mm) is common practice for sides and 1/4" (6mm) and above for bases dependant on size/span and use.

Rob drawers will be small kitchen storage, Will probably joint them with 4mm dominoes and pinned with pocket screws (advice/ comments appreciated).  Drawer slides are 100lb accuride touch release.

thx
