one guy here described himself as a "building superintendant"

we dont have such a "title" in england

could somebody explain what such a person does...............  i have a rough idea that he might be what we call a "clerk of works" but would like to know

Sound like a pretty good deal for an antique freight elevator. Were you able to sell it at weeks end? Aren't all them big auction houses in NewYawk?  ;D ;D

Hey - I'm one of those, too... never thought that's "what I'd be when I grew up".
This is part of the reason I started buying good tools this year - including some green ones.
Me & my wife (Mrs. Geezer? Ms. Turbo?) sold our house to make a down payment on a multi-use, multi-unit apartment building -- half a dozen one-bedroom apartments plus commercial retail space, with a penthouse on the roof designed for owner occupancy.
I'm now the "super" for the building, and I have improvements planned, along with the inevitable fixes & maintenance (it was built in 1970).
I may be turning to fellow Festoolians here for occasional advice.

it depends on the building type / operation and how much power the building owner gives to one persion

he might be the head porter, concierege, security man, the janitor, handyman, the estates manager, building manager

there are as many titles as there are job descriptions, and similar job descriptions have different titles

but one thing is the same.......    the breed.........

as per says, he is god and is capricious and bad tempered as any in the old testament

has to be given gratuities and can make your life easy or prevent you from doing any work at all

appeals are pointless, the building owner ALWAYS backs him up
