I am thinking of buying a used of2000 router thats not werking. It is 200 miles away from my home (Netherlands) so I can't check out what is wrong with it. It will cost me 40 euro (about 40 dollars) to buy (with systainer 2 rods and a guide bushing).

I would like to use the router in a routertable. I am going to try to fix it. Do any of you have experience fixing this type of router? And what are the known issues with it (it doesnt run at all).

I know its a risk. Do you think that it is worth the risk (40 dollars)?

That router is (I believe) based on an ELU design. It was made by Mafell for Festool. It is a great router. I picked up one on a recon sale here several years ago.

The motor is brushed so it could be the brushes are worn out. Or the switch may be shot.

I think you will have problems getting parts if the unit needs something. Perhaps some one else can add some info

As someone who repaired and refurbished countless Festool machines, I would give you the advice to stay clear of this unless you are really feeling lucky in fixing this 25+ years old tool.

There are many entries on this forum where people ask for advice about a broken tool, and people are always quick to suggest it's the brushes, but when you read on you'll find that's almost never the case. Instead it is mostly the motor that is burned out, or the electronics module that's faulty. And those are expensive parts to replace.

When you look at the eKat, you'll see you can only order the armature/ rotor of the motor, and it is very expensive at 250 euros. You can't even buy the stator anymore, and the electronics module is also sold out.

So that gives it a very slim chance to fix this thing on the cheap.

Thanks Alex, for the good advice.

Seems like a bargain. But changes are slim it will turn out to be that, in the end.

I will not be buying the router.
