Buying used tools and Warranty

I'm a newbe to Festools  [big grin] and while I purchased the CT26, the OF 1400 and the ETS 150/5 EQ brand new 12/10, I would like to be able to take advantage of the opportunity's - as they arise - of buying used tools that are in great condition and less than 3 years old.

I currently have the opportunity to buy a couple of used Festool's at very good prices.  If a tool is less than 3 years old, and something goes wrong with the tool, will it be serviced under warranty?

Do I need to be able to provide the name of the person that originally purchased the tool as well as where it was purchased in order for the tool to be eligible for warranty service?

[thanks]

As of 2009 (as I recall), the warranty is transferrable should you purchase a used Festool power tools originally sold in the U.S. and Canada.

In cases where you can not provide proof of purchase, we are able to check tool registrations from the dealer and also know when it was shipped from our warehouse.

Plus, Festool power tools don't die.  [wink]

Just want to make sure that I understand completely.  [wink]  The warranty transfers with the purchase even if I can't provide the name of the original purchaser or the seller as long as the tool is less than 3 years old, correct?  [smile]

An extension of my original question, but with a twist;  [big grin] there's a brand new Kapex being sold on ebay by a non dealer, so it would never have been registered.  If I buy it, would it be under the 3 year warranty and would I then be the person required to register it?  [thanks]

The warranty transfers even if you don't know the name of the original purchaser. Like I said, we have multiple ways of researching the purchase date and ship date of the tool.

This would even apply to the new Kapex which has not been registered.

Look, I can tell you're just covering your bases. I think anyone who has dealt with our service department knows that we're not like most companies. We're not going to ding you for every little thing. Trust that we'll take care of the tools should you have trouble with them and do so without it being an arduous process.

It's the same policy here in the UK, too. The warranties are transferable.

I've bought and sold various second-hand Festools, and I always e-mail the service dept at Festool UK with the serial numbers, names & addresses, etc. (which is what I was told to do the first time when I rang them & asked the question). They don't seem to send out new warranty documents though, or even acknowledge the receipt of the info, which is a shame as it would be reassuring (to me at least) if they did. Still, I don't believe there would ever be an issue if I needed to send one in for repair.

[big grin] [big grin] I've not had any issues with the used tools that I've previously purchased - TS 55, Domino DF 500 Q, or the Jig Saw - and from everything that I've read on the forums, Festool Service Dept goes out of it's way to have happy Festoolers.   [thanks]

I have a counter-example, but I sent it out for service yesterday.

It's still under warranty.

Is there any way to find out what the remaining warranty is on a used tool that someone is contemplating buying, short of bugging someone at Festool?

Ask the seller? [blink]
