C15 or Ti15 for DIY'er

I used a C 15 this evening to remove/replace the back and internal shields of a 48" LCD TV to clean all of the edge board connectors. The back lighting is intermittent and that was kind of a last ditch effort to save it.

That drill is quite capable of really fine control but if it isn't comfortable, it isn't comfortable...

Incidentally, the TV works much better but still has its moments.

I suggest you play a continuous video loop of the CT demonstration video for 24 hours to completely clean the circuitry  [wink]

I have not been able to hold a C15 in person - so you cant use your index finger and have to use the ring finger?

I ordered the C15 Set but was not able to hold one to see what you are talking about. Sounds strange.

Here is a picture of the way the C drills are intended to be held.  This pic shows the CXS but it is the same for the larger C12/C15.  As you can see the hand is held high on the drill body with the index finger straight and the middle and ring fingers used to pull the trigger.

BTW, you'll notice I used the word "intended" in describing the way to hold the C drills.  Any way you find that works for you is the right way.

Thanks Brice. I decided to switch to the T15 since I know that grip will work for me.

I really like the fit of the CXS in my hands but not so much on the larger C drills.  I think you are probably making the right choice with the T style since you can't try before you buy.

I certainly don't use my CXS that way, and had no idea that there was an intended way - interesting.  I hold it the same as a T drill, and use my index finger on the trigger and it feels really comfortable - so much so that I'm going to augment it with a C15.  I wouldn't intend to hold that with my index finger on the outside either, so I hope I get on ok with it.

One of the things I noticed about my c15 recently is when you use the Jacobs on it it turns the drill into something that feels completely different. Makes it goofy feeling, tippy and imbalanced.

Most if the time I stick with centrotec but this drill is an all arounder for me so the occasional odd sized bit is necessary making me use the Jacobs more frequently. For this I suppose a t style drill might feel more balanced.

I like the c style overall and love all the I interchangeable chucks but not a fan with the Jacobs on it compared to centrotec

I just found out today that I'm using the Ti15 totally wrong! I looked down and realized I use the same hand position as my c12! Oh dear...;)
