cabinet painter/finsher

Hi all,

I have a somewhat odd request... I'm looking for a business or person who can paint my cabinet doors and drawer faces.

The wife and I are remodeling our kitchen, and I did the cabinets.. like I did for our old house.

This time it's a bigger kitchen and with a kids in the picture my free time isn't like the old renovation.

Also it turns out my 120V air compressor doesn't have enough balls to use the 3m accuspray gun I got.

So I'm looking to have someone finish, the finish so to speak.

There are 51 cabinet doors/drawers total, roughly 200 square feet worth... drum sanded and ready for primer/topcoat.

Simple shaker construction with MDF panels and hard maple stiles/rails.

Since I had such good results with sherwin williams kem aqua plus the last kitchen I decided to go that route again and have about 5 gallons of the primer and 5 gallons of the topcoat.

I've already primed a few end panels, but just those have taken me forever and at this rate I'll never be done before my wife kills me or files for a divorce

Does a service exist where I can drop of the materials/supplies and get a finished project? Or even a recommendation for onsite painting is fine too, we have a 2 car garage that can be used exclusively for that purpose.

Kinda far fetched, but figured I'd put some feelers out.

Most of my google searches have just ended up with cabinet 'refinishing' people who want to spray them in the house, which I am totally opposed to with everyone working at home.

This is an easy problem to address. 

First, decide what finish you want on it. 

Say you want Benjamin Moore's Advance on your cabinets.  Drive down to the commercial Benjamin Moore store and say, "I am looking for a vendor who can spray paint some cabinets with Advance.  Can you recommend someone?"

The B-M dealer will know which of his commercial contractors buys Advance and can give you some phone numbers.  (But ask for, and check references.  Ask for at least one reference that is 2+ years old to see how the work stood up.)

I already purchased SW kem aqua for the project, but your advice stands. I'll see if the local SW store knows of anyone.

In parallel to this path, still looking for any recommendations local to DFW.

The risk with my suggested approach is that the S-W dealer has an occasional or former customer that shoots that stuff and he gives you that name in hopes of garnering favor from the vendor and capturing or re-capturing all of his business. 

So the risk is that the dealer is looking out for his best interests and not yours. 

You will have to make a judgement on that.  I would visit the store and not phone the store for this.  I would want to be face to face with the dealer when he made the recommendation.  I think most dealers will give an honest recommendation though. 

I used this technique in the past for various recommendations.

You have some pretty good advice here. It would be interesting to learn how it worked out. Too bad he isn’t on Tom’s part of Colorado. It would be a no brainer.

I'd try joining some of the FB groups catering to cabinet re-finishers / painters for a rec.   

Their reach is much greater than that of the FOG.

Paint Talk forums are only open to professionals, but they won't throw you out for asking for a referral.  It is a very interesting forum to follow if you do any finishing yourself.

They probably will end your membership once you get your information though.  They are pretty strict about keeping amateurs out. 

If you are a professional cabinet maker or furniture maker, and you paint your own work, then you can remain, but clearly you are not interested in painting your own work, so...
