Call for First Aid Systainer interest.

Count me in.  Really like the attic sys-2 concept and the red sys box with white tloc due to visibility in an emergency situation as previously stated.  Many thanks for taking on this project.

You may have already investigated this route, but K119phil seemed to express interest in beginning to stock colored systainers here in the US in your previous thread on colored systainers from a few weeks ago.  Perhaps he might be able to help facilitate the red systainer option....especially since I have to imagine you are approaching a full pallet qty based on current responses.

Curious if the post #1 is still accurate? At this point I'm not sure what the offer is.

I heard back from Tanos, and have updated the original post to reflect the most recent information. The short version is:

Final color scheme is looking like a Lt Gray Sys 2 Lid Sort (attic) systainer with colored handle and latch.

Tanos only has the Lid-Sort (attic lid) in Lt. Gray or Anthracite. They would do a special run in red, but the quantities are insane - like in the thousands - so that's out.

I have inquired about the possibility of a Red Sys2 with a Lt. Grey Lid-Sort (attic) lid. It will be a couple of days to get an answer on this.

More to come...

Glad to see this move to sys2, I'd rather be over prepared :)  Either would work for me though.

Thanks for the update and thanks for spearheading this.

I would add a Space Blanket for treating shock, a Bite Kit, and some hydration drink/mix. One might also wnat to include items to deal with poison ivy, oak, etc.

The kit should be adjusted for the outdoor worker and what that worker could face.

Just wanted to give everybody an update:

I ordered a Sys 2 attic from Lee Valley last week and they were kind enough to 'rush' it for me, but it got caught in the east coast weather and is currently sitting in Rochester NY. Once I finally get it I will post some 'near final' photos and ask for firm commitments and payment. I will give everyone plenty of time to decide whether they are in or out, but I predict you will be very happy with what I am putting together.

Stay tuned!

Thanks for all your work on this.  Count me in for whatever option you settle on.

Count me in. I have the Festool version and take it everywhere, but a tloc version is becoming a must have.  Thanks for all your hard work.

I just picked up the Festool version for $71 since it is a discontinued item.

Update for 2-15-2014:

First, my apologies as this is going to be long. USPS delivered the Sys 2 attic this afternoon. Here it is sitting next to the Sys 1:

Yep, this is gonna work!

Before you view the rest of the photos, I need to make some disclaimers.

This is a NEAR FINAL version, but it's still a prototype. Some things will still change, such as:

• Brands and packaging - all of the items you see came from my kits and spares. The items you get will be purchased new and 'fresh' and may not look exactly the same, but the function will be identical. For instance, wherever possible I will be buying Coverlet brand cloth bandages, since they are the #1 choice used in hospitals. Yes, they cost a bit more but - like the green kool-aid - I think they are worth it. They're what *I* would want in my kit, so that's what will be in there!

• Quantities - may vary SLIGHTLY based on fit. For instance, you might get 16 1"x3" bandages or you might get 20. Depends on what fits neatly.

• The Systainer - the Systainer WILL BE A SYS 2 Attic/ Lid-Sort. It will either look like this one, or it will be a Carmine Red bottom with this Lid. We are still waiting to hear back from Tanos.

• The Latch - that cute white cross on the latch is just a label that I cut out by hand with a scissor. I will attempt to get decent pricing on having it screen printed. This may or may not happen. If it doesn't I will look for other options.

Things still needing to be done:

* Once I get the actual kit contents in, I will work on packaging them even more neatly and efficiently. That may require buying a few zip-lock bags and other organizing items, but they should be pretty inexpensive.

* The Systainer needs more labels to quickly identify it as a first-aid kit. TBD.

• The price needs to be finalized. I am working on that.

• There is no list of contents inside the lid. There will be in the final version.

OK, time for more pictures. Here is what the kit looks like when it is closed:

I gave a LOT of thought to what should be in the lid. Here's why the things that are in there are in there:

First, I have to assume that there may not be water or a sink where you are working. Then assume you cut or puncture your finger - anything from a paper cut to something that may require a few stitches. When you open the attic lid, the first thing dead center are some clean (not quite sterile since they are open) 3x3 gauze pads. You grab one to place over the cut to stop or control bleeding. Oh - why aren't these sterile and in individual packages? Because at this point you need them FAST and you may not be able to easily open a package with one hand bleeding. (I told you I thought a lot about this! :-)

If it's a minor cut, you then grab one of the BZK towelettes directly behind the gauze and use it to gently clean the wound so a bandage will stick. Use another gauze pad to clean/dry the skin if needed. Find the appropriate size bandage (the most common sizes are 3/4" wide and 1" wide and both are there on the left side in the front, and the next most commonly used are the knuckle bandages that are on the right side in the front). Behind the bandages in the left rear corner are individual packets of Triple AntiBiotic Ointment (think Neosporin). Tear the packet open, apply to bandage or wound, and place bandage over cut.

And what if you burn yourself with the glue from that fancy new edgebander or whatever? Open the attic lid, clean area with BZK towlette (optimal), open and apply A&D burn ointment to affected area, and apply bandage to cover.

All this without ever opening the Systainer!

If you need to go inside, here's what you'll find:

[attachimg=#]

The case on the right contains all the OTC medications, the sterile tongue depressors, the penlight, the sharpie, steri-strips, tape, and two (for now) empty spots. Here is a close-up:

[attachimg=#]

I have a LIMITED NUMBER of these cases ( I bought all I could get anticipating this use) so if you aren't one of the first 36 to sign up you may not get one. Everyone who has committed before this post is covered.

And finally here is what the interior looks like with the OTC med container removed:

So there you have it. A near-final version of what you'll be getting.

If you have questions, want to see more pictures, or anything else - just ask!

I think it looks great!  Thank you for putting this together for us.  I am glad we're going for the sys 2 rather than the 1.  I hate to open the thing and have stuff falling out.  Also, the bottles stand up in the sys 2.

This may have been discussed before on another thread, but isn't the international symbol for first aid actually a green background with a white cross?  I am fine with the more commonly seen red and white.  Just thought that since we're talking Festool I would mention it.    [wink]

You are correct, but the Tanos greens (there are two) are not the same as the Festool green, so - horror of horrors - they might clash!

:-)

I am still working on the final specs for the Systainer, and it may end up depending on what Tanos can supply. They don't seem to keep much inventory over here, and that worries me and may end up being the longest lead time item for this whole deal. Scratch that - it *WILL* be the longest lead-time item, period.

First of all,  my hat is off to you for doing this project.  JOB WELL DONE!  Delays are part of the game.  When I did the Fogtainers I was able to get some of the blue boxes here and then had to custom order the rest from Germany.  Pallets worth of stuff was fun to deal with and I think that the members who participated in the whole journey including the debacle of screen printing the boxes came thru with some more appreciation of the difficulty of pulling off something like what you are doing.

Godspeed!

Peter
