Call for First Aid Systainer interest.

You have already gone above and beyond and this may be too much to ask, but since you are going to provide a list of contents contained in the kit, would you mind adding a short phrase about what and when some of the more obscure items would be used for?  Obviously, I know what a band-aid is and when to use it.  However, some of the items in there may not be obvious to some us that are not in the medical or ems field.  There may not be any that fit that description.  Just a thought.

Example:  1. Band-aid - used for minor cuts.

isn't the international symbol for first aid actually a green background with a white cross?  Just thought that since we're talking Festool I would mention it.    [wink]

You are correct, but the Tanos greens (there are two) are not the same as the Festool green, so - horror of horrors - they might clash!

:-)

I am still working on the final specs for the Systainer, and it may end up depending on what Tanos can supply. They don't seem to keep much inventory over here, and that worries me and may end up being the longest lead time item for this whole deal. Scratch that - it *WILL* be the longest lead-time item, period.

[sad]

First of all,  my hat is off to you for doing this project.  JOB WELL DONE!  Delays are part of the game.  When I did the Fogtainers I was able to get some of the blue boxes here and then had to custom order the rest from Germany.  Pallets worth of stuff was fun to deal with and I think that the members who participated in the whole journey including the debacle of screen printing the boxes came thru with some more appreciation of the difficulty of pulling off something like what you are doing.

Godspeed!

Peter

So, you're ready to do a run of T-Loc Fogtainers?  [big grin] I missed out on the first offering.

No injuries allowed until I am able to provide an estimated shipping date!

I am looking for a simple-yet-good first aid booklet to include if possible. I will also try to answer (and anticipate) any questions that you might have. I have a 'comments' area on my contents spreadsheet, so I will attempt to include a basic use description for the less common items.

Sorry - I guess I missed this post.

I would add a Space Blanket for treating shock...
There is a blanket in the kit already, so that's covered.

...a Bite Kit
I do not even carry one in my big trauma bag, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have value. However, that's something that is not universal enough that I think it deserves a place in this kit. If you think differently, you can always add one!

gkaiseril said:
and some hydration drink/mix.
I did not include this in the kit because it is worthless without having water. I will leave this to individuals to add if they wish.

gkaiseril said:
One might also wnat to include items to deal with poison ivy, oak, etc
Now this would be quite easy to do, and I do carry it in my trauma bag. How many of you who signed up would like this to be included? Here is the product I would include:

Tecnu® Oak-N-Ivy® Outdoor Skin Cleanser

0.5 fl oz travel size outdoor skin cleanser in individually sealed packet. Removes poison oak and ivy oils that cause rash and itching. Stops irritant from spreading. Decontaminates laundry, pets, and tools.

gkaiseril said:
The kit should be adjusted for the outdoor worker and what that worker could face.
Not quite sure what that would entail, but it's probably beyond the scope of a kit like this. Sorry.

I'd like to get in on this as well. I've been woefully under-prepared in case of anything more serious than a splinter for too long. The kit is looking good!

Also interested, unless cost is insane, I'm in

The cost should still be right in line with my original estimate of $200-$225, plus the additional cost of the move from the Sys 1 to the Sys 2 attic. I am waiting for answers from Tanos, but it shouldn't be any more than the retail difference which is $14. Hopefully Tanos will give us a little break, and the price can go down a couple of bucks (fingers crossed)!

Funny how a few decent pictures and information helps people know what they are committing to, huh?!

;D

To all who have posted interest and kind words of encouragement, THANKS! I always try to give back to the communities of which I am a part, and this is no different. I have many hours invested in this project so far and I will have even more before it is over, but it's a lot of fun and I am happy to do it.

*** The people listed above are guaranteed a First Aid kit with the extra med-contents plastic organizer, assuming they still want one and submit payment once I have final numbers and dates. ***

If you aren't listed above but still want to get in on the deal, don't panic. I am attempting to get more plastic organizers, and even if I can't there are usually a couple of people who 'fall off' of lists like this for various reasons - like the above-mentioned overseas shipping costs. I may also be able to source a substitute for a few dollars more, so...

Please post your interest if you even THINK you'll want a kit, and if you need to back out on the final commitment, no harm - no foul.

Hello,

I've been following this post for a few days and for me, I work in a home shop and have all of my medical supplies here.  However, my son is a high rise construction worker and he might appreciate this kit.  I'll check with him tomorrow and let you know if he wants one.

Jack

As requested, here is the 'nearly final' list of contents and a brief description of what they are to be used for. Again, if you have questions just ask?!

• The Latch - that cute white cross on the latch is just a label that I cut out by hand with a scissor. I will attempt to get decent pricing on having it screen printed. This may or may not happen. If it doesn't I will look for other options.

If you have a local sign shop, I would also suggest getting a price on plotted white vinyl.  You can always take the latch to the shop and see which vinyl would work best--sticky wise.  They may charge you to do the vector artwork and "gang up" the crosses onto one sheet, but it should be a relatively minor cost--or if you want to save on the artwork charge, I could whip up a cross vector file for you.  Thanks for all your work on this!

This looks like a really nice set. My suggestion would be to include a CPR micro shield? These are used to protect the person giving CPR when making mouth to mouth contact with the victim.  When I've taken CPR courses they always stress theses. Will there be CPR and First aid instruction pamphlets?

I wondered when someone was going to mention CPR shields. You win the prize!

The short version - I no longer carry CPR shields in any of my kits.

The longer version:

First, my qualifications - as a participant of the Minnesota Emergency Medical Services Regulatory Board, whose mission is to provide leadership which optimizes the quality of emergency medical care for the people of Minnesota, I helped to draft some of the guidelines for Emergency Medical Care - along with ER Docs and other professionals, of course.

After 60 years of research on resuscitation, there are only three things that we know for sure help people survive cardiac arrest:

1. Activating 911
2. Uninterrupted compressions (emphasis mine)
3. Defibrillation (If they were small enough and even mildly affordable, I'd put an AED in each kit. But they aren't - yet.)

The new 'No Fear' CPR guidelines do not require mouth-to-mouth, and I believe that mouth-to-mouth will soon be dropped entirely in favor of 'Compressions Only' CPR. Some EMS professionals have even advocated a NEW A-B-C protocol - 'A'ctivate EMS ( i.e. call 911), then 'B'egin 'C'ompressions.

If you would like to learn more, here is an excellent resource called 'CPR for Dummies'.

(Edited to provide qualifications and clarification)

WOW - (pun intended) - that is high praise coming from one such as yourself. I am honored, and will endeavour to make sure that I am worthy of the compliment.

I have launched many products during my career, one of which turned out to be the most successful launch the company had ever experienced. And I have lived through just about every 'hiccup' you could imagine. You are correct to point out that delays are part of the game, but it doesn't mean I have to like them, right?

I also learned that the key to keeping people happy content is communication, so I may err on the side of posting a little too much or a little too often. That's OK, cause in a few days I am going to ask people to trust me with their hard-earned cash, and then wait patiently while things 'sit' for days or weeks. That isn't easy to do, and I *really* appreciate you chiming in to lend credence to the process.
