Calling all experienced Domino users

Alan, another vote here for the Domiplate.  As noted, you just have to keep track of your reference side because plywood thickness varies.

The Domino, along with the track saw, are two tools I won't ever sell.

Another vote for the Traxxas parts mentioned by @Cheese they are great to give you exact depth plunges when needed and only cost a couple of bucks.

I have all the Festool accessories and have used them all multiple times, but it really comes down to what kind of projects you do...

My favourite domino accessory is the vac-sys. Definitely not necessary, but sure speeds up production when you have a 4’ tall pile of 3/4” ply to plunge mortises into. Quickly clamping ad repositioning parts is a game changer.

I’ve never tried the domiplate, I have the woodpecker base system with the full range of spacers. It does the job, gives a wider range of offsets and is a quality bit of kit.

The above being said, I plunged a few thousand mortises with an out of the box Domino when I got it and it did the job just fine, no accessories required.

If you really want (which is different from need) to buy some accessories, I guess you have been given many choices. If you want to use an accessory that probably is already in your possession, it is the microwave.

Microwaving your dominoes before you do the dry fit (and the final glue-up) will lead to a more pleasant domino experience.

I agree with [member=44099]Cheese[/member], no domiplate (or similar) needed. No issues with fence creeping, in case your domino does that you should send it in for service.

I would suggest the #203170 KV-SYS D8 connector set, not cheap (compared to other fasteners) but excellent to work with.

Also I would suggest a #498899 beech domino set, mainly to get a bargain on a second, spare set of cutters as nothing is more annoying than a cutter breaking in the middle of a project and having to wait for the replacement being delivered. Plus having all sizes at hand can come handy, a domino can quickly turn a user into seeing it as an excellent 'hammer'.

Also I suggest to listen to [member=57948]ChuckM[/member] and his microwave suggestion (or use a normal oven, takes longer though). Should you choose to ignore this you should sand down a bunch of dominos (and mark them with a vivid color) to use for dry fits without having to resort to heavy machinery to get them out again (which can happen with dominos that expanded from airborne moisture).

A little late to the party here.  I purchased a DF500 in late 2015 and have used it extensively as is.  I saw many articles, videos and suggestions on why I would want to buy more aftermarket accessories to make it even better.

Being the cheapskate I sometimes can be, I decided to use this lovely little machine for a while and see what else I really needed.  To my surprise, the only thing I ever found that I needed were MORE DOMINOS.

I love tool accessories and think they are very cool, and the connector sets are to lust for, but in reality (for my uses) the DF500 set is all that I need and then some.

If I ever decide that I really need a DF500 accessory in the future, I'm betting it will be available within a few days, so I'll just keep plugging along happily  [smile]

Come to think of it........the one accessory I would jump at would be if someone made a more convenient on/off switch for this thing and I know I'm not the only one thinking this.  [big grin]

I bought the DF500 set, and have literally never used either of the accessories. I also later bought the DF700 and adapter, and sold the DF500 as I prefer the big one... First project using the big one I had to mortise in the middle of panels and regretted selling the 500. Oh well.
