When using the 850 for general rough carpentry or cutting rabbets, the standard straight carbide blade is fine. However, when you want to use the 850 to take down a high spot on the face of a board you're left with plane tracks because of the cutter's square edges. It would be great if cambered carbide or HSS cutters were offered so that you could use the 850 as a powered smoothing plane. When I'm installing flooring, I could use my Stanley smoothing planes but their blades won't touch the exotic woods that I work with. Besides, just because the 850 is electric doesn't mean it can't do the same job as a smoothing plane.
I know that I could dock the corners of the carbide cutter with a file but that would make the cutter unusable for cutting rabbets.
