You mentioned tear-out with the Bosch planer and door work. Are you familiar with the Porter Cable door planer? It's a fantastic tool for doors and I see them at least monthly on CL. I still have mine that I bought years ago and it's still running strong. I actually preferred the PC over the 850 for use on doors, however I used the 850 on those occasions that we had to work indoors and I needed DC. The PC has no DC other than letting it fall to the floor. [big grin]
PC stopped making these planers years ago. But they were so well-made that even an old one will still work for you as long as it wasn't abused. You might see them with the Rockwell name and those date back to the 1970's and earlier.
Last year, I found a mint condition PC on CL for $125 and bought it for one of my former employees. He was pretty happy about that one. [smile]
