CAN I USE A CS50 or CS70 TABLE SAW TO CUT METAL BARS AND SHEETS?????

hey alex, i have decided to get the CS70. i am still trying to figure out what saw blade to get for the highly intricate work i am doing. i need the finest cuts possible. the best blade for this that festool sells is a 48 tooth blade. do you think this blade will do the job as well as any blade even though it has a relatively small number of teeth in comparison to other blade suited for precision cuts in wood? or perhaps you know of a blade with more teeth that is more suitable.

thanks

Michael, I get good results with the standard 48 teeth blade, as long as it's sharp. It dulls quicker then I like. I always keep one freshly sharpened blade in reserve when I'm working with it. I'm not a pro who uses the saw daily, so I can't give you meaningful figures about how long I actually do with a blade.

I also got the special blade for laminate, albeit in 190/30 mm so I can also use it with a handheld DW65 saw I have. This blade leaves a much better cut and it takes a lot longer before it dulls. In fact, mine is still sharp, and I've done laminate flooring in 3 houses by now, many white particle boards and lots of normal wood. The blade for the CS70 has 64 teeth, but it is very expensive at €193.

But I never do what I would call "intricate" work, I mostly use it for rough construction or simple cabinets, no high end stuff, so your needs might vary.

I am sure you can get lots of blades from other brands that will also fit the CS70 and have higher tooth counts. They are readily available where I live. I once contemplated getting an 80 teeth Leitz blade for it that was on sale, but I decided it wasn't worth the cost to me. Right now, I'm fine with 2 standard blades and one laminate blade. I can definitely recommend getting the laminate blade.

thanks alex. i have been looking at a lot of different companies. tenryu makes a blade that seems to fit my needs.

FYI,

I ended up getting this blade for fine cuts on my CS70:
Tenryu PSW-21054AB3

And this blade for cutting nonferrous metals:
Tenryu PSA-21068D3

Hey Alex, you out there? I would love to buy a sanding disk for my cs70, which i finally ordered on amazon.de a few days ago. It should arrive any day now. These sanding disks are really sweet. It's like turning the table saw into a stationary belt sander.  Do you know anyone who sells on that has the same arbor hole as that on the CS70. Also, i am bit confused about the size of this hole. On the website it says "connection diameter 27/36mm". Does that mean the hole can be anywhere within the range of 27-36mm? Do you know?

check out these table saw sanding disks: http://www.woodcraft.com/product/2001809/16926/norton-10-sanding-disc-60-grit.aspx

I believe that the 27-36 refers to the port where a dust collector will hook up.  The arbor hole for the blade is 30mm.

Hi Michael, sorry, but when it concerns sanding disks you're on your own. I didn't even know that was a possibility with saw tables, got no experience there.

Those are the ones that come with the trimming attachment (extention wing set-up like the kapex EB-stand).
I didn't know they fit the regular fence aswell, I normally use the one from the mft for shorter repeat-cuts (usually with the longer fence from the mft aswell) link The stop Alex linked to is wider and has a springloaded balldetent. (I haven't tried them on the regular fence, but I think they will leave a gap at the fence, since the trimming attachment has a thicker profile, and the groove the stop rides in is behind the groove for the tape measure)

There are two versions of the flag stop, the WA-AR and the KA-AR.

The WA-AR is the one that works with the angle unit CS 70 WA.

Pics or it didn't happen.  [wink]

including shipping and taxes it was 66 euros. holy crap that is a lot of money for a bit of metal and plastic. the cost to make such a thing is less than 1 euro. highway robbery.

Phew, that's a lot of money. But I bet a lot of it is postage. Where did you buy it? You're in Greece, right? With track & trace that would be 20 euro from Holland to Greece, 12 without track & trace.

Not sure if the flag stop costs less than 1 euro to make, but it can't be more than a couple of euros, so there's a high markup indeed. But that's Festool.  [huh] I know they sell a power brush for the vacs for 120 euro, I can get the same thing without the logo for only 40.

By the way, you've got the CS70 for a couple of weeks now if I'm correct, how did it turn out with the metal cutting you wanted to do?

Hey. Yeah, lot's of money for postage and tax, E35. The shipping is from Germany to Greece. I dunno seems off mark by about 20 euros but I don't want to argue with the lady on it.

I haven't cut metal yet. I've only had the machine for a couple of days. So far I like it. I am trying to figure out the perfect speed for cutting 2-4cm pine and poplar bars. I have it at at little over 5 right now. I get some fraying at the end of the cut. It could be the blade I am using is the one that came with the machine and it is not suited for making fine cuts. I have a fine tooth blade coming soon. It is a tenryu blade. I hope it fits my machine. I think it will. It should give a very fine cut.

[big grin]

Do you have the full set or the EB? I wonder if i should upgrade to the full set or it is necessary. I can upgrade for the price I would have initially paid has i bought the full set up. So, it's about 950+ shipping instead of 1,250.
