I will  building a new shop mid summer to late fall but until then I've had to move into a temporary location. I don't have the ceiling height for a cyclone so I was looking at the Powermatic canister type dust collector with turbo cone. Does anybody have one and what are the pros and cons.

There are a couple of manf. that make cyclone collectors for use with low ceilings.

JDS, Oneida, Laguna all have them and so does Grizzly.

I have looked at those but there more than I would like to spend for a temporary situation plus I wish they had more capacity.

I hear you.

I was thinking you were looking for something better that you'd take to your new shop but were limited by low ceiling ht. now.

If price and temporary are the overriding factors , why not get a harbor freight collector and order a Wynn canister ?  That'd be half of what the PM costs, less if you catch a sale.

Personally I'd go for the higher performance of the cyclones now rather than buy two machines in such a short time span.  And while it looks like the bag will hold 2x more than a 35 gal drum - the marketing is deceiving.  You can't actually fill up the bag on the single stage with out littering the filter.

Then there's also the weight. Have you actually tried to lift and dispose of a 70+ gallon bag of dust and shavings ?  Not fun or easy. 35 gallons is all I want to deal with and having a barrel on wheels makes it a lot easier.
