...... was one of my grandmother's favorite saying and must apply to me.  After looking seemingly everywhere I can't find what I'm looking for so I'll turn to you folks.  Can anyone tell me the distance from the bottom of the domino to the centerline of the the cut?  There are times when I like to clamp a straight edge across a piece of plywood , butt the bottom of the domino against the straight edge and precisely locate a row of tenons for an interior case partition (beats cutting a dado on the table saw).

Thanks much.  karl

I find I am better off referencing against the same surface (bottom of the domino base or the fence) for both mortises.  The height gauge on the fence isn't exactly precise and fine tuning the fence height to match the distance off the base is more of a PITA than it is worth (though if you are planning on doing this often, fabricating a height block from plastic or aluminum or other stable material would be worth it.

If you cut the mortises in the middle of a panel using the base as the reference surface.....then use the base as the reference surface for cutting the mortises in the matching partition piece.

Brice, just what I was looking for.  Thanks much.

Tim, that way will certainly work, but requires a clean and flat reference surface that I don't always have.  Thanks for your input also.
