I'm only a recent amateur, but I have a love of tools and caught the festool bug a couple of years ago. I have many done small things, but when my daughter said she wanted a new bed I took the opportunity to do a big project by my standards.
I think I used almost every tool in the line up I have. I also took this opportunity to purchase the vac sys, and while it was a big spend, the time savings and not having to clamp every piece the old way to the MFT made it worth it. I can't recommend it enough.
Designed in Sketch up and used CutList to create lists of piece I needed
Tools used:
Tracksaw TS55 - breaking down plywood sheets and cutting down to size
Vac sys - Everything from edge banding, sanding, some glue up
Kapex - used for the smaller panel, as it was just easier then the T55
Domino - putting the drawers and cabinets together
Both drills : CXS and TXS - Installing drawer hardware
1010 Router - trimming the 3/4" ply I left a little overhanging off the finished product, I guess I could have used the MFK700
MFK 700 - trimming the edges from the banding on the cabinets and drawers
Midi vac - and 3 full bags of dust
Every sander I have - RO150 and 90, ETS125 and DTS 400
Finish was with a Fuji minimate 4, spraying Target Coatings EM6500 a pigmented lacquer. This was the first time I've used a lacquer and it was an amazing product. I was trying to find the SW product everyone raves about, but in the end, too hard to find. Target Coating is based in NJ so it was very easy to get direct for me.
While there were little mistakes here and there, and in no way comparable to the great work I see here all the time, the final project was a success, a great learning experience (i converted to metric) and put a big smile on my daughters face. One must start somewhere....
