Captain bed for my daughter

I'm only a recent amateur, but I have a love of tools and caught the festool bug a couple of years ago.  I have many done small things, but when my daughter said she wanted a new bed I took the opportunity to do a big project by my standards.

I think I used almost every tool in the line up I have.  I also took this opportunity to purchase the vac sys, and while it was a big spend, the time savings and not having to clamp every piece the old way to the MFT  made it worth it.  I can't recommend it enough.

Designed in Sketch up and used CutList to create lists of piece I needed

Tools used:
Tracksaw TS55 - breaking down plywood sheets and cutting down to size
Vac sys - Everything from edge banding, sanding, some glue up
Kapex - used for the smaller panel, as it was just easier then the T55
Domino - putting the drawers and cabinets together
Both drills : CXS and TXS - Installing drawer hardware
1010 Router - trimming the 3/4" ply I left a little overhanging off the finished product, I guess I could have used the MFK700
MFK 700 - trimming the edges from the banding on the cabinets and drawers
Midi vac - and 3 full bags of dust
Every sander I have - RO150 and 90, ETS125 and DTS 400

Finish was with a Fuji minimate 4, spraying Target Coatings EM6500 a pigmented lacquer.  This was the first time I've used a lacquer and it was an amazing product.  I was trying to find the SW product everyone raves about, but in the end, too hard to find.  Target Coating is based in NJ so it was very easy to get direct for me.

While there were little mistakes here and there, and in no way comparable to the great work I see here all the time, the final project was a success, a great learning experience (i converted to metric) and put a big smile on my daughters face.  One must start somewhere....

It is very satisfying when the end-user is happy with the project.  Nice work.

Very nice, I have to build my son a bed before march this year. I hope it looks as good as yours. Nice work.

My it was a great way to spend some time with her.  She helped design the piece with me on Sketchip, the size of the drawers, the shelve spacing.  I just did the build. Typically I'm the end user 😄

Thank you.  Never having built drawers before, this was the best task for me.  While making the drawers and cabinet were fairly simple, installing the under mount slides and lining up the drawer fronts too me forever to get right.

Well done! Good job and looks great.

I am also the home hobbyist and will be doing the fitout for my daughter's room once her interior designer godmother has finished with the design. I'm hoping to be able to make the plans into reality. :)

Very nice, looks great. I'm sure your daughter will be happy with it for many years to come.

Looks nice.

What would you change?

How i store my kreg screws!!  The head board is 2 piece for ease of moving.  When I went to put it together, I grab the wrong size screw and poke a small hole through the front of the shelve area  [crying].  Of course it was the last one I had to put in.  I will be able to patch it up, but just a stupid error.

Very nice!  Your daughter will treasure the bed and the time you spent with her for ever!  Several years ago my daughter helped me build a bookcase for her bedroom.  She picked out the paint (pink with light green accents!).  She is now a young adult out on her own.  When she moved out she asked me to repaint the bookcase white, and, according to my wife, LOVES it, especially that her dad made it for her.

I hope you enjoy the same joy from the project with your daughter that I have mine.
