Carvex Advice - corded or cordless?

In the U.S there are bare bones Carvex kits and both the battery and power supply can be purchased separately. Also many of the new tool models can take batteries of different voltages and the tools will adjust speed and run  accordingly.

The new charger also can charge several different battery voltages and amperages so not only are accessories interchangeable but also the batteries with the tools and the charger.

I have gotten rid of most of my former Ryobi tools, but I still have probably 10 batteries for the few that remain...like my leaf blower, and power caulker.

Now I need to really stock up on Festool 18V's.  Hopefully, the plethora of tools coming into my shop over the next few months will supply me for years! [big grin]

Yep.  I have about 2 dozen batteries for my M12 tools. OK, I also have about that many M12 tools, so maybe it's not all that relevant. In any case, I like to keep lots of batteries around.

When they release the TSC55, I hope they also do a battery promo. Like buy the tool with one battery, get one battery free. There is certainly enough margin for them to do so, and it might push people like me to make the jump to green cordless tools. I am getting rid of all my Dewalt 18-volt stuff and waiting for a reason (or excuse) to drink more of the kool-aid.

I'm not yet convinced of the value of Festool drills over other brands, but I'm not biased against them either. I just need a good nudge to move in that direction.

+1 for cordless.. I own both, but havent used the corded since i bought the cordless.

Same, but my corded lives in a CMS module.

There are a number of videos on YouTube that compare the Festool drills against competitors.  Some of those videos are what sold me on the Green Mile.

My 18V Makita, which used to be my favorite, can barely keep up with my CXS, much less the T18. Yellow "DeWhat" drills are long gone due to ever decreasing power.  I still have a corded Sears heavy-duty hammer drill I've had for years, but it will be gone when I get the Festool 18V BHC SDS.

My CDD drill lasted about 7 years on the original batteries.  Now they only hold a full power charge for about 15 mins.  They still sell replacement batteries too.  Before that I would get about 2 years from other companies cordless drills.  Now I'm told I could sell it for what I bought it for or more because it's retro now!  You can't beat that investment.

I am considering a Carvex and am leaning towards the cordless version.  Although I would like to get some advice.  So please chime in.

I'm usually in a situation where I want dust collection so I figure if my hose needs to be attached, the power cord doesn't matter.

I mistakenly ordered the cordless Carvex from Bob (bare bones version), and decided that I might like it so kept it. I can only get approx 30 seconds of use from a fully charged 12v battery from my festool drill, so I ordered the new 18v battery from Bob.  NOW I'm wondering if my charger for the drill batteries will be able to charge the new 18v battery. Hope so, or this will be quite a bit more expensive than if I had just bought the full kit Carvex!

Assuming it's a recent purchase, you can always return it and get the full kit.
