Carvex & Dust Extraction

Hey guys,

So I've been doing quite a few flooring & skirting jobs recently,

Most of the time I use a jigsaw for my cuts that aren't seen, mainly because the cost of blades is cheaper and don't have to take as much kit with me!

Even when using the extractor I seem to get LOADS of dust, especially with MDF Skirting (which I love using!)

Any tips on how I can reduce the amount of dust? I'm using the Midi at the moment.

Ive never found my carvex to be the best at dust collection but I can hardly blame it. It needs the dust to shoot straight at the hoover nozzle instead of directly to the floor. Perhaps try a different angle blade ( I call them uppy or downy blades)....

Or be a real man and buy a kapex

Sharks with laser beams?

Jigsaws are rubbish with dust extraction, even the Mafell. I don't even bother any more.

Me neither. I find the hoover hose coming out the back makes it really difficult to steer and manoeuvre

I never expected the jigsaw to have brilliant extraction, but seeing MDF particles everywhere is a nightmare!

HA! That's next on my list! just can't afford it at the moment sadly!!  [crying]

Make sure the dust hood and the zero clearance are fitted correctly, and turn the extraction up to maximum. You'll always get some dust though - the jigsaws aren't the best tools in the world for great extraction.

The other thing you can try is cutting upside down, i.e. with the jigsaw underneath the material.

Had I known about how poor the dust extraction was before getting it, I probably would have gone with the cordless instead so that there were no obstacles to cutting curves and circles.

I rarely used the dust extraction on the carvex due not catching as much as I would hope but since I have the Collins coping foot can't use it anyway. I have decided it's just a tool that I should of got cordless

How is the dust collection of the carvex compared to the trion?

  Going cordless on the Carvex has been a good decision for me.
  I try to cut outside if possible as there's usually a breeze and just wear a good quality dust mask especially when cutting MDF. I wouldn't go back to a corded Jigsaw solely for dust extraction it's futile.
