Carvex PSC 420 2-4.0Ah Kit vs 1-5.2Ah Kit

Hi FOG. New to Festool...don't own any of the cordless tools thus I don't have any batteries. Looking to purchase the cordless Carvex but can't decide if it's worth ponying up for the 5.2Ah as it is C$66 more expensive than the 2-4.0Ah set.

The 4.0Ah set comes with two of the 4.0Ah batteries, TCL 6 charger, and the Sys Gen 3. The 5.2Ah comes with one 5.2Ah battery, SCA 8 Bluetooth AS charger, Sys Gen 2.

4.0Ah set is @ C$649. 5.2Ah set is @ C$715.

I use my Carvex with both those batteries - and dont think I have ever exhausted either!
I'd go with the 4.0, especially as it has two.  ;D

To muddy the waters up I see Atlas Machinery in Canada has the PSCB 420 (575682) on clearance price.  Also some great deals in their clearance portion on jigsaw blades.  I found some great deals this summer at Atlas, but could never take advantage of them as they cannot ship Festool brand to the United States.

That's another thing that I've been on the fence...PSBC vs PSC, especially with the clearance price on the PSBC. Although I prefer the barrel grip, I've heard that you can still do the barrel hold on the PSBC.

Hi,

The 4 Ah "BP 18 Li 4,0 HPC-ASI" battery is Festool's latest/newest battery. It features different cells than the 5.2Ah batteries, they can provide higher current - and tools that draw high current profit from that. Additionally they weight less, which can make a tool more comfortable to use.

Personally I would chose the 4Ah, as they a great overall all-round battery. And should you decide to buy more of Festool's cordless range, drills will be more comfortable to use, while the angle grinders profit from the high current draw.

And if you at some point want a cordless track saw, you can still get the higher Ah batteries for endurance.

I've used my Carvex with both battery types.

Others mileage may vary.

Unless your next purchase is going to be the TSC 55 then I’d go for the 4.0 batteries. Your unlikely to run through the first battery before the second charges in the carvex, and it’s one of the tools I actually really appreciate the smaller size.

I’d agree on the two 4Ah batteries with the others here, although, the 5,2Ah version includes the better and faster charger with fan cooled charging, the SCA 8.

On the PSBC vs PSC, I’m one of very few that have the PSBC. I use it upside down in just the same manner as a barrel grip. No difference there. The grip when upright is something you need to reconfigure yourself to. (Just as the grip on the Kapex) I have made great friends with mine, adjusting the way I grip it, to a different approach than regular D handle type jig saws. The grip ends much like the way you grip the Kapex. I love the fact that I can control it via the trigger, and not a stop/start switch!
I think the Trion D-handle (on my to buy list) is more easy to start with, as the trigger and grip is more on par with the set handling on older jig saws.
I do also like the battery position much better on the PSBC than the PSC, which is seriously back heavy and long.. don’t like it. The PSBC is shorter, especially with the 4Ah or 3,1Ah batteries too. Making it taking on tighter corners and spaces too.
