Carvex question

Well got a call from TTS today to say it would cost £85 to fix the Carvex !!!
I promptly stated that it should be covered under warranty.  Upon checking they agreed, apologised & said it will be sent out today.  If I am not happy with it again I have been assured it will be changed for the new model.  That is the response I was hoping for.

But you never know, it might be fine this time !

So far TTS has sorted everything out well.

Will keep you up dated once I get it back.

My carvex has been back 4 times now, 3 times for not cutting straight and once for switch. I was told by my dealer today that festool are replacing it with the new 420 model  [big grin]  should get it next week when its released in UK. Festool UK do look after you. Also ordered new sys roller, see whats that like next week too.

hmm, i think i might send in mine some day as well and try to get a 420. But only when it's certain that the 420 is actually a decent saw. otherwise i might sell it and go with the mafell.
Mine is a recent one, that is supposed to have the fixed parts, but i also need to hold it at an angle to cut straight, and it doesn't like curves at all. cutting with the rail or circle jig doesn't work as the blade jumps out of the guide, no matter the thickness or type of wood, or type of blade.

Please let us know how you get on with the new Carvex 420. My magazine editor tells me that he will get me to review one once they are available. I have heard that they are a great improvement on the PS400 with a better blade guide. If you would prefer you can PM your views to me.

Guess im very fortunate to have a carvex that almost ' does what it says on the tin '  bought mine about 5 months ago and not had any issues with it regarding straight cuts or slow radius curves but being ' just' a jigsaw i would not expect it to perform miracles as by its very nature it is not ( to me anyway ) a precision tool in the way a router or scms can be , and yes there are some niggles but its negligable when put into context with other jigsaws ive used

I think that Davej has a good point in that we might sometimes expect too much of the Carvex - it is a jigsaw after all and should not be expected to be anywhere near as good as TS or OF tools. Most of the time they are used to cut out holes that will be hidden by sinks or something else but they should cut square and be able to be guided along a line.

Well yes, at double the price of other brands my minimum spec for it is to hold the blade straight  [huh]

the above would or should not be difficult and is no reccomendation as one of the two ps 400'sI talked about earlier in the thread has had the blade guide snap off the machine/ I will try and post a picture of the offending item tomorrow

I have exatcly the same symptom on a month old Carvex 2012 made by the sticker. Took it in for service yesterday.

i presume that slot isnt suposed to be that wide,.there is a lot of wandering going on there. no wonder they changed it

In that picture it looks like you have lost the top half of the whole guide. It's supposed to be symmetrically V-shaped.
Mine is all there, but when cutting circles the blade still tries to wonder to the right and forward out of the whole guide and twist to the right at the same time.
The only blade that stayed against the guide and even remotely straight (vertically) and turned a circle was the S75/4 FSG. Anything thinner would wonder.

Well mine came back on Friday after being repaired for the 3rd time.  Just had a chance to try it & what do ya know,,,, Its still the same  [blink]

I need to call them now to arrange getting it changed for the 420.

Well, my Carvex has been shipped off to Festool for the FOURTH time. I am frankly astonished that Festool are prepared to keep on sending back a faulty machine.  I have suggested a new 420 or a refund. I am awaiting with interest to see what they come up with.

I'm going to call back tomorrow & will be looking for a definite answer either way.  I already told the rep that i would prefer a full re fund to a replacement so i could go & buy the mafell.  He said Festool likes to take care of its end users !  we will see & i will report back tomorrow.

I got the new carvex 420 yesterday which festool UK sent me to replace the 400 model. After speaking to my rep at great length last week he managed to sort the replacement for me. I haven't had a chance to test it yet though. Will let you know how it performs over the next couple of weeks.

The next couple of weeks ??  You both have been given replacements really early & you can't just quickly try it out & report back ?  They have obviously warned you both from saying anything about it.

No I haven't been told anything! It's  just that I haven't had time or a job that I can use a jigsaw on.

Next week I have a kitchen to fit so I will have a play.
