has any one used one of these.

its a hole saw with a collar on it that creates a rebate(rabit to the us folk). a metal disk then sits in thet rebate and closes off the hole again. you can get expanded metal disks so that you can use it on plaster board . i was thinking of using it for inspection holes before comitting too much, with this i can easily patch the hole

what do you think of it , or has anyone out there got one

That  looks pretty handy. Do they make them in  other sizes? I am thinking a smaller one would be good.

i havent seen one. not sure what youd want a smaller one for. you could create the same result on a smaller scale with a 2 forsner bits , a larger one to create a rebate and smaller one for the hole.

i was thinking of this but thought it wouldnt work great on plaster board and larger forsner bits are dear.
if anyone has a scourse for larger dirt cheap forsner bits (doesnt matter if they are crap as its only for plaster board.

it doesnt seem anyone has one of these cutters so i might review it when i get one

I believe this is a similar implementation to the method of doing a drywall patch with the paper face being wider than the backside of the patch to make blending easier once installed over a hole.

just thought id do an update and little review.
i bought one of these.

you get a case , the hole saw, arbor,rebating collar, waste removal tool ,10 solid disks, and 5 mesh disks

i put it in my drill and drilled a hole in a waste bit of ply . it worked good. the hole saw cut through fast but the collar was a bit violent as it started cutting. i think the carbite teeth could be sharper.

it created a hole that was a bigger than i expected as the metal disk had a few mm play around it (easing fixed , as i will get disks cut out rather than pay high prices for them)

it was also slightly proud of the surface in places so i used a chisel to take down the high spots.maybe it would work better on chipboard rather than shuttering ply.

i havent tryed it on plaster board yet but it should work ok.

my verdict isnt great. its slow and violent on ply , expensive (holesaw and rebating bit would do the same thing cheaper, althow not on plasterboard).
its only saving grace will be (i hope [scared] [eek]) on plaster board where it will make fixing holes easier. as this is all i realy wanted it for it will be a good purchase but wouldnt be for floor use only
