Anyone use this set? I am looking to switching my drill set to festool which means I would have to switch to contorted systems. I am looking at this set but was wondering what others thought? Seems very expensive to devote your drill and now the drill bit system to festool. I own several of their tools and use them daily as a finish carpenter. Just wondering now if I should have that drill and drill set. Thanks ;) [smile]

I like mine but they are very expensive.  But like you said having all the bits that fit the drill is great.

I've been using mine in my wood shop all day, moving it from one end of the basement to the other and expanding. The bits are great but they are expensive. Of course I have three Festool drills so it makes life a lot easier

I got mine during the sale, when it was $300.  Even then, it's probably more than I would otherwise pay now.  I was just excited to do the conversion over to Centrotec when I got my T18.  I have to tell you, though, those imperial drill bits are mad sharp.  Coupled with the accuracy of the T18, I was able to do holes in some furniture builds that I would have previously only trusted to a drill press.

And I've already gotten a couple of uses out of the screw hook holder.

The only way the set would be worth it now is if they included a self-centering hinge bit.

I'm not saying I'm unhappy with it, but it is one of the more excessive Festool purchases I've made.

I have part of the installer set that I need to sell. metric Zobos, most of the driver bits and the systainer. Let me know if you are interested.

You can use you current bit etc with Festool drill if you get the kit tit comes with a Jacobs chuck for your drill and a small ext which is centromere but allows you to use your normal bits

You don't HAVE to use Centrotec, you can use any drill bit from any brand you like. Festool drills come with a standard Jacobs chuck like any other drill. Centrotec is just an extra option for you to enjoy.

I agree with others Centrotec is great. Expensive, but very high quality. The best thing in my opinion is the quick change system which can make you work a lot faster. Now that I know it I wouldn't want to be without it anymore.

Thanks for all the advice. I think I will start with the drill and use Jacobs chuck until I can afford the installers set. I think its selling for 400 bucks now which is totally nuts but then again I've already spent thousands on their tools. My wife just doesn't understand it helps me work faster and more efficiently. Haha

I think if you have a festool drill, you should really get the centrotec bits. The drill is probably the tool I least needed...I mean how much better can a drill be?

I went for the CXS drill and loved the form but I felt i'd spent £200 quid on something I didn't really need at all. Then I bought the set and it all made sense. I now think it's my favourite festool tool and definitely the one I use most. I'll be getting an T18 when my makita packs in.

It's just beautifully made, works really nicely, very ergonomic, very precise etc etc... lots of small things that add up to a big difference. I was precious about the drill for a while but now it's my go to drill for everything and I'm actively searching for stuff to use it with.

Get the set - it's really nice

I agree with many of the posts above. I have been using festool daily for years to do many different projects. I do everything from custom furniture to full house remodels. I picked up the drill when they had the last sale and really like it. It was the only tool I couldnt justify the investment for. Its just a drill right......however, after using it I picked up some snappy bits, loved em. A week later I picked up the basic installers kit to get me going as I found I needed extensions, etc... I already have a huge selection of specialty bits that I have acquired over the years, but still "needed" more. I like the kit, but the case wastes SO much space. I will be swapping it over to a sortainer box.

Beaver tools has the basic kit on sale right now for $299.00; go for it.

It's all Phillips and square with me.  I rarely use torx hardly ever even see a pozi.  When I look at the installer kit I see a bunch of stuff I'm never going to use.

Torx is rare here too. Phillips is almost completely phased out, we still see it in older builds. Almost everything here is Pozi now. So odd it's hardly used in America. But then again, we don't use square at all.

Only phillips i see is drywall screws. Square drive only seen on kreg screws. Torx pop up now and again in appliances, concrete screws and constrution screws but the rest are pozi

In the USA you run into Pozidriv in some cabinet hardware, and routinely in anything from Ikea.

I'm phasing out all square and Philips head for pozi and torx.
The screw type I really like are grk,but are a bit pricy. Some of my deck screws are square drive, come to think of it.

Yeah and they don't even sell Pozi tools in their store. No wonder everyone strips out their screws.

I got my pocket hole screws from Screw-Products and everything is Torx. Not necessary I guess due to the low torque nature of pocket hole screws, but they were inexpensive and I don't have to deal with Robertson, which I definitely never see.

I bought the installers set and am disappointed there is no #10 torx centrotec bit. # 10 is the most common size I use. It is the size for GRK trim head screws. I also find the bits to be absurdly long.
The zobo bits are nice but they really need more sizes for this to be a complete system.
