Centrotec to 1/4"?

I have a bunch of Centrotec drill/drive bits I'd like the option of using in an impact driver that takes 1/4" bits.  I have the ability to use just about any bit of any combination in any shaft type except this one.  So basically Centrotec to 1/4"?

Any ideas?

I am aware some or all of the Festool screwdriver bits are not impact rated.

I am aware of a thread on the FOG that mentions the Wera Rapidadaptor and Wiha Centrofix, would these work or are these the wrong way round that I need?  i.e. 1/4" to Centrotec?

The centrotec  bits should fit in your impact driver but as the indent is further up the shank ot will not lock in.

You will need to grind a second indent in each shank for them to lock in to the 1/4" impact chuck.

Have a look at Axminster's universal hex shank bits as they have a double indent that allows them to be used with centrotec and normal 1/4" chucks.

Oh wow, have you used the Axminster bit in this fashion?

It says the shank is compatible with all systems but it doesn't say the bit holder will take Centrotec bits, it says:
"Universal shank, including Festool"

I just bought a set of 4 augers from Axminster that are supposed to be compatible. Only 2 fit :-( the other 2 won't even push into the centrotec chuck.

I haven't used one of these adapters, but I assume the hex shank is 1/4 inch; and I don't know if the bits actually lock into this or whether it is just more tightly toleranced for the slightly more 'rounded' shank of Centrotec. And like the bits, it's not quoted as being impact-rated.

Sorry, too may 'ifs and buts' there…!

The shank of that piece is thicker and  for using the centrotec chuck in a drill with a jacobs chuck.

The 1/4" seems standard all around the world.
The "system" is not compatible with the world standard.

Sometimes this works in the favour of the company to be proprietary, but other times it gets people like myself a bit cross.

Ah - thanks, Frank-jan; I was doubtful about the utility of that adapter, so did suspect I had misunderstood its function.
That makes much more sense now...

RESOLVED

The Wiha 7148C,http://www.axminster.co.uk/wiha-centrofix-quick-release-bit-holder-211855 works, just tried it.

It allows me to use a Centrotec bit (drill & drive) in a 1/4" impact driver.  I'm mindful Festool bits aren't impact rated though I can adjust the speed on my impact so not too worried.

The Centrotec bits lock nice and tight (drill and drive) in the 7148C and won't come out.  It's worth noting the 7148C is NOT magnetic, that's fine as I'll just magnetise the individual drive bits I need on the odd occasion I need to use them in the configuration already mentioned.

In summary: if you want to convert Centrotec drill & drill bits into 1/4" shank , buy the Wiha 7148C and magnetise your own bits if required.

All in all, I'm chuffed.
