Hello,

I'm building several cabinets for the garage and I'm looking for some cheap or cost effective drawer slides as I'll need several of them.  Ease of availability is also a consideration, nothing obscure or limited.  The runners will be used for drawers I plan to build, systainer drawers and box drawers, basically a bit of plywood with drawer runners on either side.  It's only a garage but I'd still like the slides to work well and last more than 5 minutes.

These were the types of slides I was thinking of using, the same type as Guido Henn used on the Chaos theory cabinets he built 10+ years ago.

I'm in the UK.

Thank you

In order to allow a Systainer to clear the front of a cabinet so that the lid can be opened fully, you’ll need to use either of the following drawer runners:
  • 350mm full extension ball bearing side mount with over-travel
  • 400mm full extension ball bearing side mount
  • 550mm single extension roller bearing bottom mount
Using a single extension runner is a bit of a false economy as the cabinet will need to be made quite a bit deeper to accommodate the longer length as Guido shows in the video. Some wasted space at the rear as well.

Hi mate,

I’ve used a lot of the cheap ones from Screwfix for loads of low-cost stuff over the years and have yet to suffer a single failure. The last time was for an understairs pullout as pictured. Cheap and cheerful, not cheap and nasty.

You’ll see that they also do complete kits with metal drawer sides, so you only need to build a base, a back and a front. Just over a fiver.

The Toolstation ones are perfectly OK if you need something which screws to the base of your drawer rather than to the sides. Not had great experiences with their customer service though. With SF - instant, no-quibble refunds are standard. Hope you get fixed up.
