Cheaper and better alternative to the Festool Vac Y-adapter

Don't forget that good DC doesn't like sharp turns and small radius fittings. Haven't looked at the inside of the Festool Y fitting, but it may be stick out from the vacuum farther for a good reason. [unsure]

Is the Fein adapter anti-static?

I'm not trying to be a smart a@# ...but why would that matter?  It's located at the end of the hose.  I use a Fein Turbo II with a stock gray PVC hose and have this Y adapter attached with no static issues.  Is this a Festool issue?

I guess it depends upon where you live. Here in Louisiana, I have used my CT22 with both regular and anti-static hoses and fittings and have never been shocked or had any type of issue. Maybe in arid Arizona or some such place it is a major problem.

As Peter said you might have a problem in you lived in desert or, if are like me and cut a lot PVC (Azek) the anti-static feature makes a big difference.

Living in Colorado when I tried using a non-anti-static hose it felt like holding on to an electric fence for cattle.

Even here in Texas in the winter it gets dry enough in most buildings that static can become an issue (probably not an issue outside).  I've only used the adapter at the beginning of the hose (right out of the extractor), not the end.  If you aren't using an anti-static hose it won't make a difference.

I only asked because if static is an important issue to someone, they should know that comparing the two adapters is an apples to oranges comparison.

You guys are missing my question.  I'll rephrase it:  Would having a regular (ie:not anti-static) "Y" adapter significatly impact the performance of an anti-static hose?  Apologies for the confusion!

I've always wondered why Festool offers a solution and nothing antistatic is offered from Fein.  They are similar machines so you would think static is just as big an issue with Fein.  It probably is and I'm just "blessed" (not) with humidity.

Yes, the non-antistatic adapter will in effect make the hose non-antistatic. Because it breaks the connection to the grounded vac.  When the connection is continuously antistatic , any static charge being produced by the flow goes all the way to ground through the vac.

However, using a short jumper wire from the hose over the non-antistatic Y to the vac hose inlet will complete the connection and take care of the problem.  Here is a pic of one that I did for my mounted , homemade boom arm.

As you said , humid enviroments cause much less static.  I have a good mix of dry and humid air over the course of the year. With out the antistatic I got zapped regularly by the hose.

Why Fein doesn't do the antistatic thing is anybodys guess?

In ten years of using my Fein Vac, I never once got zapped.  I'm in MI though, but it gets dry around here at times.

Festool is the first vac that I actually need anti static with. I have run Shop vac, Ridgid, and craftsman with out static shock, just sawdust buildup.

I do like the cleaner hoses with anti-static:)

Back from the dead, links are dead and I searched for a fein y adapter but no luck.

Festool to the rescue?

I have and use both. Haven’t really noticed any difference in performance between the two.

Appears that Fein has discontinued their version. Searching for the Fein part number brought up a Canadian merchant that might have it available.http://www.noahsmarine.com/itemdesc.asp?ic=69908030197

Might try E-Bay as well if you’re still wanting the Fein.

Check Grizzly.  They have lost their Festool distributorship and have a sale on the few Festool items they have left. Not much left, only 25 items and that 75" rail says not available (sorry) if you click on it.  I see they have Festool item 452898 antistatic Y adapter with plug for sale at $33, normal price is $44.  They have this listed under (their number) item T-30287.  However they get you on shipping.  Their shipping is based on $$ spent so under $50 is $9.99 shipping.  You can see the shipping rates on their website and pick through the Festool bones to see if you can find anything on sale you might want.

Probably six weeks ago they had maybe 200 items on sale, but the sale was mentioned on FOG, and items disappeared quickly.
